Nope, Dr pronto as that’s precocious puberty.

Definitely go to the doctor. I was diagnosed at 5 with early puberty (now 39) However I was born with congenital hypothyroidism and later developed vitiligo. Autoimmune disorders can often trigger early puberty. I was put on steroids and other medication which stopped the process but I did start my periods at 10 and the rest of puberty followed naturally. The vitiligo has receded and my underactive thyroid is stable.

Is this something that’s treatable? I’m so scared that I’ve only just noticed it

Take her to the GP my daughter is 7 and i have a thread on here about Benign Breast development .
The doctor told us to bring her back if she grows pubic hair.

My dd had precious puberty. I took her to the docs age 6. She had bloods and a brain scan. Nothing showed up and it's now become clear she has a syndrome of some sort (still being investigated).

It's best to get seen asap

Best of luck

she doesnt have breast development that i can see she has the underarm hair and pubic hair developing. Im so worried. She has an appointment now in a week. :( Really hope she is okay. Is this definitely Precocious puberty then for sure?

It's more likely to be premature adrenarche than precocious puberty. This is where the adrenal glands make the horomes that trigger hair growth, skin oiliness and body odour activate early. It is a totally separate process to puberty but typically coincides roughly with puberty in most children - premature adrenarche does not mean that puberty will begin imminently.

In girls breast development in the sign to look for of puberty beginning.

Nonetheless, it is likely that the gp will refer your DD to an endocrinologist to confirm it is premature adrenarche and not precocious puberty. The former is much more common.

Source: my daughter had premature adrenarche at 5, now 7 and still no signs of puberty. Hope that reassures you!

Contact the Child Growth Foundation. They have a helpline run by parents and Precocious Puberty is one of the conditions they cover. They are a fantastic supportive charity and can give you advice whilst you're waiting for the doctors to do their thing.
