Does my DD need antibiotics??

My DD 5 woke up fine yesterday and bounced off to school, I got a call to collect her at 11am as she was pale and shaky. I brought her home and checked her and her temp was 39.9. This all came on so fast.

She’s had no rash nothing just a bad headache, sore throat and is saying her tummy hurts. Her throat has red dots all over it. The thing is is that I can’t get her temp down and she’s a wreck today. She’s crying constantly and her temp has been pushing 40 all day.

I called the GP who took a look at her and said it’s viral and to keep alternating calpol and calprofen and she should be better within a week but to call if she gets any worse.

I’m not sure how she can get any worse as she’s currently in bed with a raging temp and saying her head and throat hurt, she cried every time she washed her hands as she says the water hurts them, I’m assuming this is fr her temp but the GP didn’t seem worried.

I appreciate doctors don’t like giving out abx these days and it’s a taboo to even ask but she’s only been on them a couple of times in her life and certainly not in the past 2 years.

We are going into the weekend and she’s so poorly so just not sure what to do

The point I actually meant to make here is that I’ve been alternating calpol and calprofen since yesterday morning and her temp isn’t coming down, is this okay and normal and do I just leave her like it as the GP has said.

Haven’t had this before my girls temps have always reacted to medication

Others might disagree but with a fever that isn’t coming down like that I’d be tempted to go to A and E to rule out some sort of infection / sepsis type thing.

I think you should call 111 to check.

I would be phoning the gp back I think. If it’s after the surgery is closed ring 111 x

I've got something similar to your DD, and my husband has had it this week too. I'd 100% be calling the GP or out of hours as her temperature hasn't reduced.

If it is viral antibiotics won't do anything but they might have something they can get her temperature down with.
