Baby tooth fallen out but looks rotten inside?

Hi
Today my ds aged 8 lost his first upper lateral incisor. It's been wobbly for ages so he is super happy it is finally out. However when I've looked at it I think it is rotten inside? There is the usual nerve section in the middle which is red but then behind it is a large black area (see photo attached -this is the top view so looking down at the root etc). This wasn't visible from inside his mouth at all so isn't on any surface of the tooth but is all internal to his tooth. How would that even happen? He goes to the dentist every 6 months and has no issues. Is this something that I should be concerned about?
P.s. Please ignore the green on his tooth - he was eating spinach pasta as it fell out!

That’s looks like there’s a chip or something and a bit of chocolate is inside. Maybe it’s the photo. Can you send the pic to your dentist?

Riddlediddle · 23/03/2022 17:31

Yes I was thinking I might contact the dentist. Is that an over reaction though?

Not a dentist --but isn't it just a bit of dried goo from where the tooth was attached?

BertieBotts · 23/03/2022 17:36

Teeth always look like that when they fall out. That or DS1 (and me) must have shocking dental hygiene.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 23/03/2022 17:39

It could be a bit of dried/clotted blood maybe? If it was bleeding underneath the tooth when it was wobbly?

Hard to tell from the pic though and you can probably tell better than I can!

The roots on baby teeth get reabsorbed for the body to use the calcium in the next teeth.
I remember seeing a little girl’s skull in TCD museum showing how her adult teeth were already waiting beneath the surface as the deciduous ones were getting smaller.

Here’s a CG version (a bit less gruesome) of a baby and a young child.

That’s normal and the dried blood where the tooth was attached to the gum.

Fascinating. Human Bodies are amazing aren’t they!

I don't think any of his other teeth have been like it which is why I've questioned it. I know they all have the blood in the middle from the nerve it's just the black patch that I've never seen before and just looks really odd like it's rotten

If it was decay it would start from the outside. I guess it was just wobbly for a while and got some food stuck in it

Carrotten · 23/03/2022 20:29

It might have been a small area of decay might be some food/dried blood its very difficult to tell from the photo, but the tooths fallen out so it really doesn't matter

Just make sure he's brushing well as I'm sure you do and don't worry about it
