Clumsy 2 year old with glasses

My 2 year old daughter has had glasses since the age of 1. She has a +6 prescription so fairly high. She’s done really well with them (as in she doesn’t take them off at all) she also has a patch for 3 hours a day (used to be 6).

My problem is she is REALLY CLUMSY. She falls over CONSTANTLY. And it doesn’t matter what I do, we could be walking at a snails pace and she will still manage to fall over her own feet. She also drags her feet a lot which obviously doesn’t help.

She’s due another eye test soon but I’m starting to think because of her clumsiness maybe her glasses aren’t actually strong enough.

Can anybody help?

If she is being patched, her eyes probably don't work that well together yet....so her depth perception won't be great. It should develop more over time.

Is her vision the same on both sides?

I wore a patch as a child and am partially sighted in one eye, my depth perception and spatial awareness is shocking in certain lights so I can (and have) tripped over my own feet and/random objects/kerbs/steps that I think are further away than they actually are... I also regularly need to check my footing when stepping down as I misjudge the height and distance between steps!

Her right eye is worse than her left which is why she has the patches but at her last appointment they said the left eye is starting to become abit lazy too which is why I think they wanted to bring her eye test forward abit. She constantly trips over kerbs to the point where I’m having to say “step” right before we get to a kerb so she knows to pick her feet up. Today she has fallen down the stairs at nursery which is why I’m starting to become abit concerned that maybe her glasses aren’t strong enough. 2 weeks ago she also managed to dislocate her elbow by falling over. I’m totally at my wits end!

Fingers crossed. I just feel for her so much. She’s constantly covered in scrapes, cuts and bruises from falling Sad

Thank you for your reply, it’s really reassuring to hear from somebody who is going through similar to what my daughter is going through! I’m just glad it is probably down to her eyesight and nothing more Flowers

Hopefully it is just that OP, sounds like you're doing the best you can for now. Hopefully her eyes will stabilise at some point soon and they'll be able to give her a consistent prescription.

If it's any consolation since I've never had full sight (that I can remember at least) it hasn't ever held me back, people always ask if I struggle with it but I tell them I'd probably be more discombobulated if I could suddenly see fully!

I even managed to learn to drive which was/is a shock to the system and possibly dangerous 🤣
