Eczema and Dupilumab

Hi all!

DS suffers from severe eczema and is nearing his 6th bday so his Dermotology team are starting to make the switch over to Dupilumab (needs to come off of Cellcept so he can have his MMR booster before then starting Dupilumab).

Does anyone else have children using Dupilumab and how have you found it.

He's absolutely horrendous with blood tests and gets upset when has to use epipen so I'm worried about how he is going to tolerate the injections. Any advice on that front?

Thank you!

I can’t help with Dupilumab as Xolair improved DS1’s severe eczema, although he started it primarily for his severe asthma. But for the injections and bloods do you use Emla cream or Ametop gel? If you use Emla cream some find Ametop gel works better. Also, have you tried a buzzy?

Thanks @Imitatingdory . They won't use any numbing cream on his skin as it's normally quite active.

Also not tried a buzzy as has to be held down for blood tests but might get one to see if it helps, anything is worth a go!

Before you buy a buzzy ask the hospital if they have one, many do. I posted about them on another thread recently, the OP bought one, it worked and she mentioned it to the hospital and the reply was oh we have those but they hadn’t thought to try it.

Also ask if DS can be referred for help with his needle phobia.

Thank you, I'll ask before his blood test!

My daughter is on dupilimab for eczema and the injections for her are agony, but they do help

lifeofskin · 06/04/2022 16:51

@Cananyone how is your daughter?
Amazing that it's helping the eczema, not so much the pain side!

I naively thought it would be epipen style, so we would be able to get it over with quickly! Confused

I can't comment about the eczema but my DS is on adalimumab (so similar drug) for colitis that has been very resistant to anything else. The adalimumab has given him his life back. He's 19 so not really a child now - diagnosed at 17.
