My DD2 has come down with chickenpox, 3-4 days of what I thought was a heavy cold and mild temp has now resulted in spots across her body with more appearing... just wondering if anyone has any guidance as when they fill the worst with it? She currently seems fairly happy but not sure if we are just at the start.. also have an older daughter and 7month old baby, is there any chance they won't get it??? Grin

Often they feel worst before the spots arrive.

As above although some children can be really poorly for while. Others don't feel ill at all.

It can take up to 3 weeks for your other children to show any symptoms. They will probably get it.

Don't give them ibuprofen/neurofen. Stick to calpol and piriton

Dociousalaexpifragalisticcalas · 19/03/2022 20:11

Lots and lots of TLC. Camomile lotion swabbed on with Cotton balls at their leisure, buy buckets of the stuff. Calpol. NOT NUROFEN as I've heard that makes it worse, so do your research.
Cool packs in tea towels.
Distraction Distraction Distraction.
Depending on age, bribery so not to scratch.
Baby can wear scratch mittens.

Also be aware with chicken pox that it weakens their immune system. DS had it at 2, quite mild, then was rushed to hospital with suspected pneumonia after the pox had gone. Luckily he was ok, but I'd not realised that it could be so serious. If any coughs develop keep a close eye on them. Hope it's over quickly!

Vira-sooth is good stuff. The incubation period for chicken pox is insanely long. Just when you think your other kids gave surely escaped it they'll break out in spots. It went through my two recently. Toddler had it worst but neither of them were too poorly. Good luck

Heckythump1 · 19/03/2022 20:49

Mine wasn't ill with it at all!
She had them after 10 days off isolating back in the day, literally the day before she was due back to school... so had another week off stuck indoors, she's climbing the walls by the end of it!

My 2 year old just had it. He was worse about 2 days after the first spots showed up and was pretty ill for 2 days. He did have it quite badly and was absolutely covered. We got some liquid Piriton on the advice of the pharmacist and that seemed to help more than anything, just kept giving him that and Calpol. He has now passed it on to my 5 week old who was grumpy for the 2 days before the spots but seemed to perk up after that.

My kids ha e recently had it. The spots come out iver3 days then they start to feel better but are contagious for about 10 days from spots starting. Baths with bicarbonate of dada in stop the itching as does poxcilin mouse. Wonderful stuff!

Ilikecheeseontoast · 19/03/2022 21:42

Bicarbonate of soda not dada!

My 9yo had them last week. His worst day was day 4 I think, just laid on the sofa all day. Had a high temp for 5 days. Floored him tbh. Wouldn't have the calamine lotion but wasn't too bad at all with scratching. He had them in his throat so he had lots of icecream. Waiting his his younger brother to start next Confused
