Can Boots Pharmacy Prescribe Antibiotics for a Child?

I was just wondering if anyone knew.

My 5 year old has been having more frequent accidents recently where she just cant get to the loo on time, she has complained about stingy bits and is quite red and is now complaining about stomach pains. I've been calling my gp all morning but they now say they have no appointments left and to call after 10 to see if I can book a routine appointment for some time in the future. She has recently had COVID. First negative today, thought we didn't actually test yesterday. So I don't think they would see her but I could take in a urine sample. As I think this its possible she has a UTI as well as COVID. While I wait for the GP to be able to take my call I wondered if a pharmacist might be able to help. There is a Boots I could get to if I thought they could help. I think some prescribe for adult UTIs but not sure about kids.

Thanks.

I think you need a GP too.

Hoolahoophop · 14/03/2022 09:59

Thanks, I will keep trying the GP. What a pain.

Try 111 in case there is a walk-in anywhere near?

Hoolahoophop · 14/03/2022 10:46

After 35 mins on hold i spoke to a receptionist. They have no appointments, no emergency appointments and said not to call 111 until after 6pm as they have no out of hours appointments either.

To call again in the morning and see if I can get an appointment then. If it gets worse to go to A&E!

Just go to A&E now.
I know it isnt an accident or emergency. I'm usually very against going to the hospital unless your leg is hanging off but this is a child in pain and she could be feeling a bit better by bed time and much better tomorrow if a doctor would just write a script. It would take them 2 minutes. It's disgusting that you cant even get a doctor on the phone.

Mumdiva99 · 14/03/2022 10:56

Bless her. And there are no prescrubjng nurse appointments either? Do you have a walk in nearby? Otherwise call 111.....don't waiting the receptionist says....this is a child in pain and it could get worse.

carefullycourageous · 14/03/2022 11:15

Phone 111 and ask them what if any walk-in options exist.

Or follow the advice you have been given by your doctors practice: If it gets worse to go to A&E!

I'd phone 111 and see what they say.

Are there any walk ins near you? They’ve been popping up here recently.

I got a uti with covid and it was miserable, I hope she feels better soon.

That's terrible really OP. A few months ago I had the start of what I guessed was a urine infection, called the gp and they told me to come in, grab a sample bottle, pee in it using their loo, then hand in back. I had a phone call back from a nurse a couple of hours later confirming infection and a script waiting for me.

That should be standard imo.
