Infected chickenpox spots??

ponyclub1234 · 12/03/2022 20:28

Worried about my 2 year old, he started with chicken pox 2.5 wks ago. His spots all scabbed over within a few days & started to heal. However some have started looking really angry and red? See pics. Could he have an infection?

They look a bit red. I'd maybe consult the GP

KinkyGran6969 · 12/03/2022 20:44

Could be herpes

redglobox · 12/03/2022 21:43

No advice I'm afraid but my son had this when he had chicken pox. I didn't really know what to do and did nothing. It was fine but he scarred badly in those places. I would speak to a GP.

Quartz2208 · 12/03/2022 21:46

Yes I would get some advice on those - given the timeframe especially

RandomMess · 12/03/2022 21:47

Keep an eye out for blood poisoning- if they get a line Thanks

dementedpixie · 12/03/2022 21:58

Might need antibiotics

If they get infected and cause blood poisoning a dark line runs down your vein.

Google them same if you get an infected insect bite.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 12/03/2022 22:17

U might just need some antibiotics as do they do look a little angry.

You haven't given Nureofen (ibuprofen) or anything containing aspirin have you?

No only treated with calpol and piraton but haven't given him anything last wk or so as didn't seem poorly with them anymore

My daughter had these type of angry spots all over her face. They left deep scars. She has many scars now. I would suggest putting calamine lotion on to cool them and dry them out, I didn’t do this and really regret it. I used poxclin which did nothing to prevent scarring. Keep an eye on the red line around the spots, if they get bigger , consult GP x

Oh gosh thanks for sharing & bless ur dd.

Wish I'd used calamine lotion before his bed now but didn't see this message I may sneak & put some on! I didn't think to use it after the itchiness had gone. I'm definitely going to ring gp tomorrow as they're getting worse.

My ds had chickenpox over Christmas and they started to heal but we’re getting more red around them.
I sent the gp a pic to ask if they were infected even though he was really good at not scratching them & we were using poxclin also, they were heading that way. The gp prescribed something called dermol cream, which really worked for us. We used to put on it 3 or 4 times a day then when the scabs started falling off and the redness had cleared Probably once a day. It’s very much like diprobase etc so can be used in the bath to wash them and then more after drying to moisturise.

My ds only has 1 scar from chickenpox because he knocked the scab off his forehead before it was ready but other than that it cleared up with no lasting marks.

Thank you for this. I did get ds to the doctors today & they took it very seriously even getting a second doctor in. They confirmed an infection and have given me a 7 day course of antibiotics if they don't work we hav to go back. Praying to see an improvement. They never mentioned a cream I may ring & ask if still the same in a couple of days.
