Paediatric people able to offer advice?

My son (4) is ill again, and whenever he is ill he suffers terribly with his breathing. The GP has sent him into hospital three times over the last 6 months to get help relieving his symptoms. This normally involves nebulisers and then a couple of times steroids as well. Finally last week he was given a preventer inhaler as well as the reliever inhaler we've had for a while. Tonight he has been bad again, I have literally been awake all night whilst he tosses and turns with heavy breathing and a cough. He isn't doing the muscle sucking in thing which has happened in the past, but his resp rate and pulse are slightly elevated even whilst asleep. Should I take him to A & E? He's been to the GP with the same symptoms many more times than he's been to the hospital and they send him home and say use the inhaler more (which I've done tonight). He's asleep now but so unsettled, I just feel worried but also feel it will be another case of 'rid it out'. Any paediatric professionals able to offer advice please?

How's he doing? My daughter is just the same with all the breathing issues. I feel your pain it's like torture for us parents and the little ones bless them

Ended up taking him to A&E a couple of hours after my post as he seemed to deteriorate further. They admitted him and he had to have steroids, nebulisers and has come home on antibiotics. So stressful. He's finally picking up today but it's been a rough few days for sure! Sorry to hear your daughter also suffers, it's truly terrifying to watch your child suffer with their breathing.

Oh bless him. Glad to hear he's on the mend though. It never gets easier does it. Hang in there - hopefully they will grow stronger soon xx
