I’m absolutely reeling after one of 8yo DD’s baby teeth broke today. It is a first molar and she had a routine check-up literally a week and a half ago during half term, where our regular dentist said that there was a small cavity and gave us an appointment in May to get it filled.
When it broke today we went to the emergency dentist signposted by 111. He was pretty horrified and said that it’s very badly decayed and beyond saving, and will need to be removed as soon as possible. I’ve left an urgent message with our usual dentist but it won’t be picked up until Monday.
I’m freaking out a bit. I have no experience at all of this (I’ve had one filling in my life). Please can anyone tell me anything about the procedure, or how it’s possible that our usual dentist missed the extent of the decay?
