My dd fell over at school a few weeks ago. She had a big scab under her nose and though it has healed nicely she has a scar. I have seen online you can use silicon patches or a cream ?merderma for children to try and reduce scarring but wondered if anyone had any experience/advice? Thank you

Tropic skincare do a product called Tamanu balm which I really rate! Worked brilliantly on DD's chickenpox scars. I'm not a tropic rep btw, I just think it's a really good product!

Thank you. How long did you use it for @Covidwoes ?

My son had a scar like that from having a huge scab on his chin it was there for a long time I dont remember it disappearing or how long it took but it must have as he doesnt have it now. We never did anything to it in the way or creams etc.

That's good to know. Young skin does tend to do better doesn't it. I just wonder with it being raised but that makes me more hopeful thank you

Put suncream on it every day even in winter.

My son had major reconstructive surgery on his face aged 6 months. We did use cream to massage the scar (merderma sounds familiar) and it's been invisible from about 6 months post op.

I don’t think that’s a scar, it’s hyperpygmentation I just which can happen after a scab/lesion/spot. It should fade with time. I wouldn’t bother applying anything fancy, just keep it moisturised

Kids' skin usually heals really well actually. My DD had a prominent facial wound/scar from surgery that is now invisible 2 yrs later. The only thing the doctor said was to put sun cream on as it healed.

As long as the scar is flat, it will disappear. Skin is always red like that after a scab falls off, it fades but can take several months x

It is a bit raised. I'll keep it well moisturised and sun screen I think

Going through similar now, massaging is key twice a day for 2mins with something like a silicone scar cream. And sunscreen! Even though it’s not sunny, to help prevent pigmentation. I’ve been told to do it for 8wks. Young skin heals well, but we are doing all we can do help.

What cream are you using? And just a childrens sunscreen? Hope your little one is ok

I fell when I was around 16 (I know, ridiculous 🤣) but I chiped my front tooth and gave myself a really bad cut above my top lip. The doctor gave me an ointment used after eye operations to reduce the redness. The scar tissue is still there but the redness went away incredibly quickly using that, but that was 16 years ago now so I don't know what it was called sorry.

My ds had a terrible accident when he was young. He was scalded all over the front of his body and one of his arms. I thought he would have terrible scarring for the rest of his life but honestly there is one tiny bit of scar tissue on his chest and no redness at all. It should disappear itself.

Missmiller · 04/03/2022 12:27

I think it will fade away to nothing. My daughter has pock scars after a severe case of chicken
Pox years ago, they haven’t faded because they are crater type scars. All the redness she was left with went away though but it took months and months!!
