My son has been poorly for a good 8 days now. He's had sickness and diarrhoea on and off. On Sunday we were in hospital as he was so lethargic he was sleeping all day. Turned out he had tonsillitis. Been on antibiotics but since Tuesday just seems to be really tired. He's fine one minute then he's exhausted and just leans on me for cuddles . No temp. No rash and no more sick but really nit himself. Should I still be concerned or is it just taking awhile to recover? Feel like I'm a neurotic mother

The kind of sickness you mentioned can be quite draining on children. He just needs a few days to recover. My children who had stopped napping constantly drifted off to sleep after sickness.

Make sure he is hydrated, eating ( however little) and is weeing.

You are fine , it's natural to worry. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Oh poor little love, he's just recovering. Don't worry. As long as eating, drinking normally and antibiotics seem to be working I'd just give him a bit more time. It's good really he's having lots of rest as he'll bounce back sooner ❤️

What his temp like? Are his hands and feet cold? (If yes it’s and A and E trip? Is he weeing OK? Honestly if in doubt get him checked.

It might be just him recovering but I would err on the side of caution and get him checked out again. It's really rare, but tonsillitis can spread into the brain and that would result in extreme lethargy as one symptom. It happened my 2 year old son a couple of years ago although his started with an ear infection. Really lethargic, drinking loads of water but not enough energy to eat.

I told myself he just needed a day or two to get over it, but then decided to take him to GP, he sent me to A&E and he ended up in emergency surgery that night followed by an admission to ICU.

I'm not saying that to scare you, and what happened to my son was rare, but a child that young can go downhill really quickly and no one will judge you for keeping checking in with the GP.

Thanks everyone. I had an appointment in the end. His stats were all good. No temp ect... but tonsils looking very sore. Been told to give calpol and get fluids into him. Hoping he will soon be better on the antibiotics. He's not eating great. Just wants fruit but at least its something. If no wee then take to a@e

Such a worry with little ones
