Hoping someone can set my mind at ease, my daughter is 2, she woke at 3am screaming, took her downstairs and she eventually fell back to sleep with me, woke up she was covered in a rash very faint but all over her body, very warm, very sleepy, took her to out of hours Doctor said a viral rash. I'm just sat here as she's in bed convincing myself it's something worse 😢

My DS always gets a top to toe rash with a virus. When he was little, every single time I was panicking and looking for meningitis signs. It always went within 24-48 hours. I get it too as an adult with some viruses, but not with Covid.

Thankyou for replying, I have for the last hour been reading about meningitis, I've made myself so anxious now I feel sick, hopefully she will be better by the morning, thankyou for taking the time to reply as I literally had nobody else to express my worries to

My son currently has a rash, temp etc.

I just posted too as thought it was HFM but perhaps just viral? Who knows, little ones seem to be getting hit hard after all this lockdown business.

Hope you and your little one are ok x

Hi thankyou, I've been up to check on her again she's sleeping soundly, I hope I'm worrying over nothing I'm quite good at that, just to see her so different today was quite frightening she's normally so hyperactive but today she's not moved off the sofa. I hope your lite boy is feeling better soon xx

Rashes are scary, especially when young, but after 5 children I have experienced so many viral rashes when they are under 5 particularly, use the glass test for reassurance and also look up the other signs of meningitis.
My young ones have had quite a few recently accompanied by high temps and being lethargic or full of cold but usually they regain some energy and periods of recovery after 3 days.
No harm in calling your Dr for reassurance if no improvement after a couple of days or worsening of symptoms. They'd rather do a 10 minute check than be sorry

It really takes out of them and sleeping will be helping with recovery it's just hard as parent to see your babies poorly.

Thank you. Fingers crossed x

Ds was the same as others on here-every illness, however mild, resulted in a viral rash.
They didn't always look the same. There were blue, pink, bright red and pin prick, hexagonal, over an inch across. And they varied between a few (normally round his head), or one or two, or covering his whole body.

What they told me in A&E (on the umpteenth blood test sent by the GP) is that for meningitis, the rash comes late on so standardly they're clearly very ill by that point. I was quite lucky in that at no point with ds was he clearly very ill.

What they said is: If they are clearly ill, get them to A&E rash or no rash. If you're worried, go to A&E and they can check.
But if he wasn't behaving ill, and the rash wasn't coming out as I watched it (which happened a couple of times) then there wasn't any need to rush him there.

My son has rashes all over his body that appear and disappear throughout the day. They can vary in size. They start as red and then have white lumps like they are blisters. They are not itchy avd don't seem to bother him. He has no temperature either and feeding as normal. Has been like this for 7 days. He is 8 months old. Doctor says its viral rash. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and no family or friends have ever seen this in their kids.
