Umbilical Hernia- Normal??

6 week old DD has an umbilical hernia and I could swear it’s getting bigger.

I know it’s really common but is it normal for it to get bigger? Really freaks me out seeing it bulge so much and I just can’t imagine it going away any time soon 😫

If they’re going to disappear what age does that normally happen? Dr just said “by 1yr”…?

@ExhaustedMumma Yes soft and very squishy (complete with squishy bubble noises...😣).

Hope your DS's continues to go down ☺️

Sorry to jump on an old thread, but did the little one in question need surgery in the end? My 6 week old little boy also has a very large hernia which has grown in the last 2 weeks, I went to the gp today and they are asking a paediatrician for advice, I’m terrified he’ll need surgery… anyone had this happen and not need surgery?

Hello. My DS’ hernia didn’t grow in size at any point but it was pretty large. He was about 5 months old when I last posted on this thread….he is 3.5 now and just has a normal belly button. It took over a year to fully resolve. Good luck.

Sorry not to reply sooner (!) as only just seen this and hopefully it’s resolved now but yes my daughters went away completely when she started sitting up by herself and using her tummy muscles. Now she’s nearly 4 and has a totally normal belly button, didn’t need any kind of intervention. Hope your little boy has the same outcome 🙂
