Would you get this looked at or am I paranoid?

Hi everyone,
I’m putting this here as I am a complete hypochondriac. Not just a worrier but actually diagnosed with hypochondria, been on medication nearly sectioned etc. Whilst I am not on medication anymore and live a normal life, recently I’ve been having a bit of a relapse and can’t listen to the gut instinct most people can.

So dd is 9 and has always been super healthy, never gets bugs usually avoids cold etc. Start of the year I took her to the GP as she had for the second time woken up with a black eye with no injury etx, school pulled me aside asked what she’d done this was the second time it’s not normal etc so I took her and they weren’t concerned.

Since then she seems to be getting infections that aren’t healing as quick as normal. Cough lasting weeks, a eye infection taking 3 weeks to heal despite prescription eye drops and a cold sore which despite normally being gone in a week or two took 4 weeks to go. In this time it spread to her Inside of her nose and had sores in there which haven’t fully gone yet.

Yesterday her nose started bleeding, first time ever. This has tipped me over the edge, I am full of anxiety and terrified something is seriously wrong. She is her normal self otherwise.

I want to book her back in ASAP however I’m not sure wether this is my anxiety and mental health taking over or that it’s the right thing. She is terrified of the doctors (no idea why, before she went about the eye the last time she went she must have been a toddler) and cries when I’ve suggested going and I don’t want to put her through upset or make her anxious herself she is ill if I don’t need to.

I do worry an immense amount however I have always tried to make sure I don’t project my fears onto my dc and I keep it all in my head and despite my extreme worry they don’t go to the doctors unnecessarily etc.

So what I’d really like to know is would anyone who is capable of being rational get these symptoms looked at?

I would definitely get her checked out. It could be anaemia or something else. And it would set your mind at rest.

Hey op, sorry you've been struggling lately.
From what you've said I guess the bleeding could be due to the sore in her nose so could be explained that way.
The black eyes with no injury are a bit strange. Are you talking a full on black eye? Does she get bruising anywhere else?

Rainbowmonkey · 20/02/2022 06:44

No bruising anywhere else other than the normal ones you’d expect here and there on a shin sometimes. She does bruise easily though but always has done. This is why they weren’t concerned.

A line of bruising all the way under the eye. First time happened last summer and then start of this year. Very bizzare indeed.

Every time any of them get ill I panic it’s going to turn serious. I know it’s my head i know it is and I never let it show but this is my absolute worst nightmare, I’ve been up since 5 crying and I just can’t shake it off. However I know I have mental health issues and the gut instinct that everyone says to listen to I just can’t , it’s so hard.

Should say the bleeding was the opposite nostril of the sore, it wasn’t a lot though not dripping out but was blood on tissue when wiped etc.

Please don't cry, OP! I understand your fear but try to calm yourself. It's probably nothing but as you say, her symptoms are a little weird. Make an appointment on Monday, get your DD checked and settle your worries. Thanks

rainbowstardrops · 20/02/2022 07:20

Oh please don't be hard on yourself. Your DDs symptoms are a bit unusual and as you say, she's struggling to throw infections off like she used to, so to put your mind at rest, get a GP appointment and take it from there Thanks

I’d get her seen OP, it absolutely warrants further investigation and GP’s will be well versed in reluctant children.

My DS had similar symptoms, no bruising to eye but they suddenly became very swollen. They took bloods and it turned out he had glandular fever. A year down the line and he still struggles with body aches/fatigue at times but we know what it is and I worry less about him
