6 month old extremely moany

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has seen a personality transplant in their 5/6 month old? My daughter will be 6 months the end of this week and for the past week all she has done is constantly moan! She's always been a happy and content baby. I realise she could be teething and I've tried everything but nothing seems to make her happy. We've also introduced her to food and in her own bed. She loves these things but she's just constantly moaning all day. I don't think she is ill as she got over bronchiolitis nearly a month ago. Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated!

Weaning and in her own room as two massive things. How far apart have you done these?

What's your typical day? Is she napping ok?

What have you gave her for teething? My sons gums hurt for awhile before a tooth broke through so she could be having pain

Hi, thank you for replying. Yes they are two huge things and we were aware of how big they were we just didn't realise it could have an effect on how happy she is. She's been in her bed and weaning for 10 days now and has been doing well so this is why I didn't think they were connected? I've tried nurofen for teething but had no luck.

What foods is she eating? Could be the impact of those on her gut/mild food intolerances?

We're sticking to pureed veg for two weeks. Could the veg be upsetting her? She moans before she's eaten anything.

Aston parsons teething powder! Highly recommend.

Is she having milk before food?

Scrunching up after food?

I have the teething gel of that? Yes about an hour before food she has her milk. No she doesn't normally scrunch after food.

I 2nd Ashton and Parsons powder. Available at pharmacy. Calpol may be better and bonjella.

I go back and forth on whether the idea of "leaps" is absolutely bollocks, but it does help when they're moany to think it'll end at some point. There's bound to be one at 6 months as they're constant - look up wonderweeks if you haven't already.

I know what you mean. Thank you, I will look it up.

Teething can be hugely painful. It will definitely impact how happy a baby is!

If she is unhappy then I’d be keeping up a supply of neurofen to see if that helps

Sugarpaper · 15/02/2022 19:31

This was my 6 month old a couple of weeks ago - very moany and made a frustrated grunting noise all day every day! He has now just suddenly got really good at rolling so I think it must have been related to that. Hope it passes quickly for you (and sending strength for the next moany phase that will surely come our way!)

RavenclawsRoar · 15/02/2022 19:42

If it's not teething or tummy trouble, it might be boredom / frustration. I find 5-6mo a very trying age in many ways, as they go from being fairly content to be babies, to realising there's a lot of things they could be doing if only they could figure out how! Maybe some new / different toys / objects for her to explore, lots of tummy time as she's building up to being mobile, take her out to see different things as much as possible. You may find she suddenly does something new as pp have suggested and then she will calm down a bit. Also 6months is prime growth spurt time so make sure she's getting enough milk alongside food.

It's good to know I'm not alone me in this as it really has felt like it this past week. Thank you and thanks for letting me know your experience. Hopefully she'll be spouting a new skill soon and the moaning will die down... For now :)

Thank you for the advice! I got out new toys the weekend and have bought some more over the last few days such as stack a cups and eggs in a box... The stack cups seemed to help a little today. I love taking her outside to explore the weather is just not on our side this week so having to do indoor activities. Thank you for the reassurance. It's much appreciated. :)
