Hi,

My daughter is 5 months old and has cmpa. She was originally put onto similac alumentium but was still displaying signs of cmpa. She was changed to nutramigen just over two weeks ago however she's really not getting on that well with the milk. I appreciate that a good trial of milk is between 4-6weeks but I was wondering if she'd benefit from a complete dairy free milk. She is still very very upset majority of the time, crying in pain because she is still very very windy, she burps a lot after her feeds but she can never seem to fart and it causes her a lot of discomfort. Her poos aren't mucusy anymore but they are very thick and vary between the normal dark green poo but recently she's been doing very light green, almost white poos. She seems to look like she has a lot of little spots under her skin and her face seems to be getting dry patches which she didn't really have before. She's also waking up every hour during the night to top up her feed as I feel this milk is just so thin it's not filling her up and if it's not hunger that's waking her up it's her crying in pain pulling her legs to her chest, arching her back etc.

I'm really struggling now with the lack of sleep and I'm dying for a good night sleep some time soon😫 do you think she would benefit from complete dairy free milk? Do I need to give this milk longer to make any difference? Is there anything I can do to get her to go longer during the night without needing a feed?

Any advice is gratefully appreciated, thank you in advance

It sounds like where the milk is thinner than normal, it’s giving her reflux. Have you tried going back to the gp and asking for a thickener? And holding her upright for half hour after feeding? I suspect because she’s uncomfortable at night (lying down makes reflux worse), she’s feeding for comfort which then makes the reflux worse and you end up in an unfortunate cycle

Hiya We are currently going through the same with my daughter ( exact same symptoms) who is almost 3 months old. We were put on similac ailimentum at the start which worked great for a couple of weeks and then symptoms starting returning. I asked to trial a different milk from the GP, thinking he would give us neutramagin but he gave her neocate lcp which is amino based and has worked AMAZING for her, about 97% of her symptoms has gone, she is a much more happier baby. Keep pushing with your GP, paediatrician etc Also for reflux her feeds is thickened with carabel which has been another life saver as these milks are very thin. We use mam bottles and size 2 teat. I hope this continues to work for us.. she's been on this milk now 6 wks.

I hope you find a milk that works for you and your family. Maybe try the carabel, it's very inexpensive to buy also.

Name change from tiredpregnantmess.

Going through the same thing. Our DD was first put on nutramigen 1. Two weeks in she was still getting symptoms but had improved. Milk review, the gp (3rd different one at this point) wanted to re introduce cows milk as a trial. Feck that. I asked for amnio milk but she said no and to give nutramigen another 2 weeks.

Two weeks pass and dd's face still covered in the rash and she was still straining. Next milk review was a different yet again a different gp who actually listened to me and said ok we will try nutramigan puramino as it's amnio based. Got it last Tuesday and DD is a total different baby. Rash almost gone and not straining as much.

Gp still wants to reintroduce cows milk at 4 months as a trial I'm really reluctant as she's so content now. We have a follow up next week with the same GP for continuity.

You know your baby push for an amnio based milk. It's still got the protein in but it's broke up even more.

Push to see a paediatric dietician for help with this.

Ours was amazing and helped so much. My son was combi fed with pepti 1. He still had symptoms using that but it was way better than normal formula and had no symptoms with breastmilk which he had over night.

Speak to the dietician about which milk might work best for her.

Hands down though the best thing we did for our son was early weaning. We started at 4 months with baby rice made with his formula for breakfast. By 6 months he was up to 3 meals and dropping milk feeds.

Honestly solid food was amazing for him.
