What could this rash be?

Noticed this rash on 3yo dd when getting her ready for bed just now. She has it on her tummy, a couple of places on her back and on each thigh.

Had a google and hives seems the closest I can find but I am not sure Confused

Had anyone seen anything like this before?

Tia

Looks like hives/heat rash. Does it blanch under a glass?

heldinadream · 09/02/2022 19:46

It looks a bit like an allergic reaction to me OP. I remember my dd years ago having something like that every time she wore a pair or trousers that were really bright red and I wondered if she was allergic to something in the dye. Anyway it didn't last or get worse or anything.
Of course I don't know, I can only tell you what it reminds me of.
Can you get her seen at a pharmacy tomorrow? Is she OK in herself?

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 09/02/2022 19:47

It faded but didn’t disappear completely, it was hard to tell as they aren’t red. I’ve got 8 children and I’ve never seen a rash like this before! She seems normal in herself and doesn’t have a temperature.

It looks like hives, which is usually a histamine reaction to something she’s sensitive or allergic to. Has she had anything new to eat recently? Have you changed washing detergent/bath bubbles etc.? New air freshener? New pet?

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2022 19:52

It looks exactly like hives. In children her age, they're usually caused by a response to a virus. Often after they're better. Has she been under the weather recently? Or has anything else changed in her environment? Any new washing powder, bubble bath, soap etc?

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 09/02/2022 20:28

Yes she was ill last weekend!

Thanks for your help everyone, I just went to check on her and they’re starting to fade already so must be hives. She was wearing a new outfit that hadn’t been washed (she put it on herself while upstairs playing with older sisters) so I’m guessing it must be that as she hasn’t eaten anything new, I did buy Aldi washing powder at the weekend for a change but I’ve been using it all week and she must’ve worn stuff I’ve washed in it since then.

Have you got some piraton in?

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2022 20:51

She might have them on and off for a few days, particularly if she gets warm. Piriton if you have it but it should get better on its own. As long as it's just the rash and she seems fine, it's nothing to worry about. Like I said, in young children, it's usually just a viral response and probably won't happen again but keep an eye out for it happening again in case it's caused by something else you need to avoid.

My DS had a bout aged 3 which started a few days after a cold and they came and went for a couple of days. He had a few the next time he had a cold and then never again. It was 7 years ago.

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2022 20:53

"viral infections cause more than 80 percent of all cases of acute hives in children. A variety of viruses can cause hives (even routine cold viruses). The hives seem to appear as the immune system begins to clear the infection, sometimes one week or more after the illness begins. The hives usually persist for one week or two and then disappear"

My son always gets hives after having a virus or being run down. Sometimes it's the only way we realise something is going on as he just gets on with things
