Any opticians/optometrists out there?

My dd (13) has had two squint surgeries in the last year for a divergent squint that appeared 2 years ago.
She’d been having episodes of double vision that progressed to almost constant double vision. Her measurements were fairly large when measuring the squint.
The second surgery has seemed to help, however she has been complaining since of fuzzy eye sight and the inability to focus on objects. They’re blurry, with a fuzz round the outside of them. The double vision has eased although she says she sees two images on top of one another. (I’m guessing this means blurred).
The optometrist recommended an eye sight as the squint seems to be ok.

So today we went to the optician and I’ve come away quite worried.

2 years ago she had 20/20 vision. They commented how good it was.
Today it’s deteriorated so significantly that they’ve told me it’s ‘6 lines below 20/20 now’.
The optician looked alarmed and tried to call the hospital there and then but they eye hosp had just closed for the day.
She’s emailed them, and my gp.

What can be causing this?? Apparently her eye health is good today.

She’s in the past been diagnosed with weak muscles and had episodes of muscle issues across her body. She’s also got a fair few endocrine issues going on too.

I’m not sure what to think

Her vision acuity is 6/21

I would message your gp, though if you think it's deteriorated in the last few days (as opposed to over the last year) I would be tempted to go to eye a&e - not all hospitals have one, and I'm not sure about paediatric eye a&e.

Dp had a good experience, they certainly put him at ease

I’m an optometrist and I’m sorry I couldn’t even guess. It could be one of many things.
It seems as if they’re all on ball though - so I’d call in the morning and see what’s going on with the hospital referral and possible causes.

Could it be the muscles giving up again?

I know this sounds bad….but could dd be pulling the wool over their eyes?! I just can’t believe this is real…..again!!

When they test sight…..do they cover all bases for kids saying ‘I can’t see’

She could be - but we tend to test a different distances to get round that.
It may be that she has some swelling in the cornea or the retina. Honestly, it's impossible to say - have you been seen yet?

Thank you.
The referral went to the gp instead of the hosp so has been delayed a day!! It’s with them now (spoken to triage nurse) and she’s emailing the emergency consultant (who did both previous squint repairs).

Apparently her eye health was good. So no obvious swelling or trauma. She had difficulty moving her eye up or down but I was guessing/hoping that’s from previous surgery?
