Covid and croup

8 month old DD tested positive for covid on Thursday (along with entire household). Thursday night she had a really high temperature but seemed a bit better Friday. Today she has had a croup sound infection cough and raspy breathing on and off but has been fine in herself. She is now worsening and unsettled and I can see us ending up needing 111 at some point tonight.

So two questions really, when is croup bad enough to seek medical help? And how do I go about this being covid positive? Can we just turn up at A and E if needed? Sorry for ignorance!

croup sounding cough (not sure where the word infection came from!)

If you’re worried at all get her seen, when you tell any health professional about the covid they’ll deal with it, isolating you etc I’ve looked after children who are covid positive and their positive parent it’s no problem we just need to get gowned up. They may even prescribe steroids remotely but I think with croup if you have any concerns you should phone for advice.

If you can call 111 they'll send you to be seen somewhere but with an appointment and give you the relevant advice / let hospital know you're positive so they can deal with it.

Won't be an issue at all and they'll be happy to see you but it just allows procedure to be put in place.

Hope your DD feels better soon.

I wouldn't take chances with such a young baby. Call 111 and they can arrange for her to be seen safely.
