CHILBLAINS

Had anyone on here had/got a child that suffers with chilblains? Has anything you tried helped? Did they blister? I’m at abit of a loss with my daughter, age 8. She has suffered since September (pretty sure it’s chilblains although not totally sure), we are doing all of the obvious things (keeping her feet warm at all time, tried various creams) but nothing is helping. Swimming seems to be making them worse although that could be a coincidence. Any recommendations of treatment or advice would be hugely appreciated, do we just have to ride it out until the warmer months? Seen various doctors - no help. We have found out she has high b12, no idea if this is linked, waiting to see a specialist. (She doesn't take a multivitamin) can anyone shed any light. Thanks

My son has these on his toes, I’m putting it down to the amount of time s
He spends with bare feet, at home and also he does gymnastics several times a week. They aren’t causing him any discomfort through - I have to nag him to wear socks!!!

My daughter had them this winter on hands and feet. The pharmacist said there was nothing you could really do, just keep warm. We used paracetamol when they were really painful and antihistamine tablets seemed to help with the itching. I bought her some fingerless gloves to wear in school - sitting still in classrooms with all the windows open every day is NOT helping.

Don't let her get into a hot bath - cold feet into hot water is a real trigger. Try and keep her active - good circulations helps. I also think it helps to stay well hydrated, but that might just be me!

I’ve had chilblains all of my life and found out in my mid twenties that I have Raynauds syndrome. Maybe asked GP if that’s a possibility because there are various treatments.

Do her hands also go red/blueish when she’s cold?

Did she have Covid last summer?

I ask as 'Covid toes' are a known after effect, esp in young people who had mild symptoms. I ask as Covid toe looks feels like chilblains.

Are they definitely chilblains? Only with you mentioning swimming it could be athletes foot. I had similar with my DD last year thinking it was covid toes/chilblains when it turned out to be athletes foot as was easily sorted with cream
