DS9 woke with sudden knee pain

DS woke in the middle of the night with knee pain in his left leg. Couldn't stand or move on it without loads of pain. He is on sofa now and says it doesn't hurt as long as he stays still but nurofen seems to be helping a little and can move it a little more now with less pain. Did the 111 check your symptoms thing and it says manage at home. He is adamant he hasnt fallen at school or anything yesterday.

Not really sure what I am asking. Anyone had similar? Doctors open in three hours so will call then unless he makes a miraculous recovery. He is never ill and it just seems so random to wake up in night with this.

I think knees is often growing pains, and/or magnesium deficiency. Although it sounds worse than that.

Could it be a Charlie horse cramp? They’re excruciating and can feel them for days after

Sunflowersinthewind · 28/01/2022 06:45

Just had to Google that but not sure. There's no swelling, numbness and doesnt feel hot. I put a hot water bottle on it and that is definitely helping so maybe a muscle sprain? Can you sprain without even realising?

My niece had exactly the same problem a month ago. Her mom is a doctor and she wasn’t worried at all. She said it’s a growth phase and that at this age the connection between bones and muscle are prone to inflammation. My niece has monthly pains in knee and they last a day or two.

Antares444 · 28/01/2022 10:55

Sorry, forgot to say my niece is 9 y/o and that she is healthy like yours.

Bramblesr · 28/01/2022 11:54

Regular anti inflammatories for 24 hours if it’s not improved or getting worse hot, swelling get checked out

Hellocatshome · 28/01/2022 12:16

Most likely growing pains but my nephew actually managed to dislocate his shoulder in his sleep. Doesn't sound likely though as there is no swelling etc.

windowstothesoul · 29/01/2022 10:14

@Sunflowersinthewind how is the pain today?

Sunflowersinthewind · 29/01/2022 15:53

All better! Not sure what it was, maybe growing pains but he is back to his normal self Smile

I remember mine having knee pain at the same age, not all the time, every few weeks.
