Can chickenpox mainly be in the nappy area & nowhere else?

As u can see from photos he has loads of red spots in his nappy area and just a few on his legs / feet and wrists. His nursery have sent him home suspecting chicken pox and a doctor suspects the same but it just doesn’t look like it to me?! I would’ve expected it to be more widespread and spots to be bigger / blistery??

Looks like my DC and it was hand, foot and mouth. It started on his bum and hands, looks exactly the same as the pics. After a few days he got it around his mouth too.

Looks like pox to me, likely will spread fast

Tomeeornottomee · 20/01/2022 10:10

Those do look like early chickenpox to me. It takes a couple of days for the spots to blister and then scab over.

Doesn’t look like chicken pox to me more like an allergy or rash pox tend to be more fluid filled blisters and start on torso and spread out over the body. I’ve nursed kids with bad pox and my own 4 have had it.

Caesious · 20/01/2022 10:12

Could be hand foot and mouth? My little one got it all over his nappy area, on his feet and palms of his hands. None on his face at all.

Looks very like hand foot and mouth as it presented in my children

Danikm151 · 20/01/2022 10:20

Looks like hand foot and mouth. Did the dr actually look at the spots or was it a phone consultation?

Bobholll · 20/01/2022 12:41

That’s hand foot & mouth. My doctor told us it should be called hand, foot, mouth & bum as it’s actually most commonly found on the bum!

Chicken pox are big blisters. It’s really obvious. HFM are smaller.

Livefortherain · 20/01/2022 12:43

Definitely hand foot and mouth. DS3 had it back in November and it looked exactly like that.

mackers1 · 20/01/2022 12:44

That's hand foot and mouth. How the heck did a Dr not manage to diagnose that?

ponyclub1234 · 20/01/2022 18:32

Thanks all well I think the majority wer right with hand foot and mouth as my 5 yr old was sent home from school poorly earlier & I have since found lots of red spots in her mouth she says they're really sore ☹️

Also amazed that the doc misdiagnosed him as they saw him in person 🤦‍♀️

Hand foot and mouth can occur anywhere but the hands, feet, mouth and nappy area are utterly textbook. My DS had a lot on his knees as well. Often the slightly larger hfm spots are rugby ball shaped rather than round.

Surprised the GP didn't suggest hfm.

RestingStitchFace · 20/01/2022 18:42

My little one had hand, foot and mouth mostly in the nappy.

Chickenpox and HFM have different incubation periods so you really need a GP to diagnose, OP.....

MaryShelley1818 · 23/01/2022 04:56

Definitely HFM. Both of mine only got it on their bottoms and inside the mouth.
Ours was misdiagnosed three times with my eldest as nappy rash then Chickenpox. It was only when I specifically asked a paramedic that it was then diagnosed.
