Hi mums,

My 6 months old son has an Eczema that last for more than 2 months.

We talked to the GP and also with a dermatologist, tried lots of creams and nothing helps!

I feel sad fir him as he is suffering from itching skin.

The Eczema just refuses to go away!

Any advice?

Apologies if you’ve tried this already, but give Sudocrem a go - the one in the pot. Works wonders for my son’s (mild) eczema.

I have a lot of Eczema, have done since I was your DS age:

It can take time, so be prepared to try one cream for a sustained period, even with a treatment I know works for me it can take a week or more to clear a patch

Cotton mittens and really short nails to help stop any damage from scratching

Distract distract distract - something else to do with hands or think about other than the itching. Toys, playing games, TV or screens, just break the feeling of wanting to itch

Don't have bath too hot, no soap, GP may be able to advise on or prescribe a soap substitute

Try to see if anything is triggering it - this can take aaaaages to work out and it can be days after you cut out the trigger before you see an improvement. It's really hard. For me washing powder and perfumes are big triggers. There's a really good one called Filetti, used to be sold everywhere, now it's only Waitrose which is a PITA

Hopefully your DS will grow out of it but even if he doesn't and he's got it as much as I have, you can learn to manage it really well. My lovely DM did so much to help me. It sounds like you're doing a great job looking out for him Smile

Be consistent with what cream you are trying. Don’t use once and decide they don’t work.
A regular skincare routine is one of the best things for eczema.

My son has doublebase, i’ve started applying it whilst he’s in the bath and letting it absorb into his skin before getting dressed.
Eczema can be worse during the winter too unfortunately

Have you tried childs farm cream? My son was allergic to liquid parrafin which was in most of the prescribed creams and ointments (he is also allergic to oats which are in aveeno? his eczema was so bad he was hospitalised. As a last resort I stopped using the creams and tried childs farm - this along with cutting out milk and his skin is honestly so so so much better - if you didn't know he had eczema you wouldn't know if that's makes sense? We initially applied the cream constantly at each nappy change, took about a week to start clearing up and now we only apply cream after a bath or being out in the cold. Might not work for your son but worth a try

DS had eczema from day one, we even got to the stage of the eczema nurse doing a home visit to teach me how to wet wrap him.

The thing we found helped him most was Aveeno cream. They've 'brand-stretched' considerably since then, with all manner of variations on the theme, but this version is the one we used back then.

And then it was just keeping his nails very short and dressing him in long trousers even in warm weather, since if he saw skin, he scratched it Sad. Didn't go for his arms quite as much so I could put him in short sleeves.

He was also prescribed a steroid cream, Fucidin H, obviously used very sparingly.

We used Aveeno on our daughter who had terrible eczema that wasn’t helped by even the cream the doctors prescribed.

Hi!! I tried it 2 days ago and I see a bit of improvement! Looking forward to see how it will be in a few days. Do you know how many time can I apply it? As it's leave my sons cream very dry xx
