What is this on my toddlers back?

Hi,

I have noticed this red patch on my toddlers back for the last week. It does not seem to upset him but i am wondering what this is? Is it eczema or something to be worried about? It is quite red and as a first time mum i am worried. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is this on my toddlers back?

Is it on a seam line of his clothes? So clothes could be rubbing it? My daughter gets some random dry patches on seam lines.
Is it blistering? Can't tell by the photo...

My first thought was either rubbed dry patch or fungal infection. Whatever the case, the absolute best person to tell you will be a pharmacist- they are amazing at identifying rashes.

Doesn't look like anything to worry about.

Thank you so much for responding to my post. It is on his right shoulder blade towards the middle of his back so i do not think it is the clothes rubbing. I will get it seen by the pharmacist first thing tomorrow. Thank you again Smile

Impetigo?

Mano2020 · 08/01/2022 14:26

I just looked at impetigo online. I will have to wait until Monday for the GP to look at it. Will keep a close eye to make sure it does not get worse or spread. Thanks

See a pharmacist, it will be quicker than waiting for the gp.

My daughter (toddler ) has this type of eczema and the pic looks like how hers started and has continued. She always gets it in the same place however it’s now bigger and the shape of a circle / coin.

Also pharmacies won’t advise on under 2s , just in reference to the previous post.

Thank you so much for this. It does look a lot like this and he has suffered from eczema previously. As you said, i went to the pharmacy today but they said i would need to get a GP to look at it and prescribe the necessary medication. However, they said it may be a fungal infection. He has an appointment booked for Monday so will get it checked. Thank you so much everyone Smile

I'm thinking eczema or the start of shingles.

Libmama · 10/01/2022 00:52

It looks exactly the same as the shingles my ds got. It never got any bigger and just disappeared after a week or so. Highly contagious though!

Ringworm?

Mano2020 · 10/01/2022 12:17

Hi,

Thank you everyone for your advice. I saw the GP today and he has given a ointment to apply to his skin three times a day. He thinks it is a skin infection. Advised to keep area dry, cotton clothing and limit bathing. Thanks everyone Smile
