My baby will be 13 weeks on Sunday. He's EBF and has always had multiple soiled nappies in a 24hr period until the last few weeks where it'a dropped down to about 1 per day, which I've read is perfectly normal once they hit the 2-3 month mark. My problem is once he's gone a whilst he starts to get really irritable and upset, he's not a big crier and never had been but once it gets to a certain point he'll scream until he finally poo's. It's obvious he's very uncomfortable, but is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about? Has anybody else experienced anything similar?

Are his poi's normal when he does go @Strawberryblondee? As long as they're not hard, it sounds normal.

Some things that you can do to ease the discomfort are:

Feed him, they usually find it soothing

Wear him in a sling and go for a walk. Being upright abs the motion usually help.

Take his nanny off and bicycle his legs.

Give him a bath.

And if all else fails, arrange to be somewhere where you can't be late. The poonami is bound to arrive just as you're about to leave Smile

One of mine when ebf used to go once a week. You could tell when it was coming up because she would start getting very uncomfortable, with a very distinctive wriggle.

Had the advantage that I sometimes managed to hold her over the toilet and pop her straight in a bath afterwards as that calmed her down.

My 7 week old has reduced bowel movements after starting gaviscon and prescription formula. Were down to 1 poo every 24hours if we're lucky and it not only stinks but is like a paste!
She struggles to pass it and its horrible to see.
Weve been giving a small amount, maybe 1oz of cool, boiled water twice a day between feeds and this has helped loosen things a bit. Gp said this was fine to do.

My ebf baby pooed once every three days (I remember some mornings thinking oh it's poo day today!). I read they can go ten days. He'd get a bit gripey before a poo but was fine afterwards. Massaging his stomach and back helped (and I feel helped moved it along).

Your baby sounds normal to me. But if your worried I'd ask the health visitor as it's always getting something checked if you're worried.
