Hello Everyone,

My 6yr old daughter is showing signs of early puberty. We are seeing an endocrinologist for this. She is now developing acne - I am at a loss to know what products are safe for a child of her age. Is anyone else facing this? I would love some advice. Alternatively does anyone have a suggestion for a Dermatologist who specialises in young kids? We are based in London.
Thank you.

Hi @peacemother, I was just about to post about what appears to be acne developing on my DDs (8) face. It's not too bad atm but it can be quite a worry if you dwell on it can't it?

I'm sorry I have no advice to offer. Have you tried any over the counter treatments? I am about to start looking into that but I want to ensure it is designed for young skin.

DD is like a rake and showing no signs of developing a bust at all but I have noticed that she is definitely hairier than she used to be.

Poor little things, I wish there was something we could do to shoulder the burden for then when they are so young.

Again, sorry I couldn't offer advice, I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.

Good luck to you both in your search

Ask your endocrinologist !

La Roche posay effclair suits my 20+ yr old best. But all my kids have had some form of prescription at some point , none of which licenced at that age

Hi @Mammyofonlyone thank you for your kind message. Yes - it is distressing - especially as she is now asking me why she is getting pimples. Also - she is worried that the other kids will notice 😭. Wishing you all the best.

My dd has incredibly sensitive skin that breaks out. She is 9. We have found that using the 'Simple' brand face wash morning and night and then aloe Vera gel on the breakout areas helps a lot. She uses the gel morning, when home from school and at bedtime after washing her face when it is bad. If gentle remedies aren't helping then I would recommend paying for a consultation with a private dermatologist (due to current waiting lists) who may be able to prescribe something to help.

Mammyofonlyone · 03/01/2022 21:03

@MisgenderedSwan that sounds like a good place to start, thank you

@peacemother I'm going to give that a go as a start point, have you tried it? Like you, I am worried some of her 'friends' might notice and start saying things to upset her. Girls can be cruel sometimes. There are already some who only wear their hair in 'cool' styles (which to me appears to be a normal pony tail) and those who don't (also seemingly wearing a normal pony tail). I really hope your little girl is OK and that you find a remedy soon.

@Mammyofonlyone I think at this point we will see a Derm. Was hoping to see if anyone has a Rex. For one in London. Need to do my research I think.

Sorry late to the discussion @peacemother but Dd was diagnosed with centeal precocious puberty at age 6. We use cetaphil cleanser which has been fab.

Theres a great facebook group called precocious puberty UK if you need handholding and advice.

peacemother · 10/01/2022 21:33

@mogschristmascalamity thank you for this info! Much appreciated

Try dr Sam bunting- dr Emma wedgeworth specialised in childrens skin. Based Harley st but not as expensive as you’d imagine hopefully. They also have their own products.
