Has anyones dc had an umbilical hernia? Baby due her 8 week check up in a couple of weeks but not sure if I should call doctors tomorrow? Doesn't seem to cause her pain but is huge when she cries

Yes. My dd1 was born with one. She was on annual check ups at the hospital until the age of 4 years old and it was decided that as the size had not grown, any surgical intervention would be of a purely cosmetic nature. So we just left it alone. She is 13 years old now and it hasn't really given her any bother tbh.

What size is your dc's if I can ask?

My ds had one, it was huge. It fixed itself, I can't remember what age he was now but it was before he was one.
It just gradually got smaller until one day it was back to normal and you'd never know it was ever there. I was told that they were relatively common and 9 times out of 10 they fix themselves.

@Bezzi that's good to know! I've read it most likely will fix itself but she turns 5

My baby currently has a huge one and I've been told that if by three months that it hasn't reduced in size then he will be referred to the hospital for monitoring. Doesn't cause him pain but it looks awful.

My DC also had one and it fixed its self after a while.

My little one had a huge one; consultant saw him at a few months old and said they mostly fix themselves by age 5 but if it hadn't he would need an op to correct. It did fix itself - can't remember when but long before he was 2.
