2 year old son appears to have small lump on penis, I’m really worried

Noticed this afternoon when changing him a small lump on the side of his penis. When I try to touch the lump he brings his legs up. He doesn’t seem in pain but I’m not sure if it’s sore or uncomfortable for him.
No temperature. He’s his usual happy, playful self. Eating and drinking ok.

I will be calling Gp in the morning but I’m really worried right now.

Just wondering if anyone has had this or similar or can offer any advice. Thanks

Clearly you cannot (must not) post a picture of this, so we can't know. But you could google smegma pearls, and see if that looks like what you're seeing.

Heyduggeefanclub · 29/12/2021 23:52

@nocoolnamesleft, thanks for your reply. I’ve actually been googling a lot this evening (not sure if that’s a good thing, or not).
I did come across smegma pearls and it’s definitely not that.
I’ll contact surgery tomorrow and hopefully I’ll get a telephone appointment or face to face in the next day or so.

All sorts are going through my mind right now.
Thank you again, much appreciated.

Hello, a dad here. Might it be a small infected spot? Along the penis shaft there are small follicles where hair grows after puberty and these can get infected. If it looks red and like a boil it might be this, if not it may be just a small contained cyst but a GP will look and reassure you. Dont google please!!

Heyduggeefanclub · 30/12/2021 11:12

@Janeandjohnny, thank you for reply. Yes, I stopped googling last night, it wasn’t helping me.

It’s a lump on the shaft slightly bigger than a pea.

I’ve spoken to a GP this morning, they are seeing us later this afternoon.

We saw the GP last week. He thinks it might be pus and therefore will go away on it own. He also thinking maybe a cyst and wants to see us in two weeks, where he will refer for a scan.

I had hoped Seeing the GP given me a little more reassurance but I’m more anxious now.
The lump is still there, however some days it seems to have reduced in size then other days it’s the same.
Son doesn’t appear to be in pain, even the GP pointed that out, so just monitoring things over the next week.

Oh OP, you sound so worried and anxious! I mean that in a kind way, I can see you're trying to stop yourself worrying but you're clearly concerned enough to post here again. Try to ground yourself by focusing on the facts: your little boy isn't feeling unwell. The GP isn't overly worried. You've sought medical help and it's being taken seriously. Right now, your boy is tucked up in bed and hopefully sound asleep. Right here and right now nothing bad is going to happen. You are allowed not to think about this. Try to get some sleep. Flowers from a fellow anxiety sufferer.

Heyduggeefanclub · 04/01/2022 00:44

Thank you @Notthissticky, very much appreciated Smile
He is sound asleep, I should probably get myself off to bed. You’re absolutely right I need to focus and calm my mind. I’m not helping myself right now.

@Heyduggeefanclub
I know you are worried but that GP assessment is fine. Many kids will get little bumps like this. It will probably fade away and your little boy seems not to be ill or unhappy about it. @Notthissticky was very sensible above with their advice.

Hey @Heyduggeefanclub I have been frantically googling as we are in the exact same situation with my son. I’m so glad I came across your post i don’t feel quite so alone now. We ended up in hospital just before Christmas when I found my sons lump as the gp sent us there as he didn’t know what it was. Two more drs there didn’t know what it was so they have referred us to a consultant who we are seeing tomorrow and they also mentioned a scan. I have been googling (bad for me I know, although some things did calm me) and I have awful health anxiety, so I’m terrified about tomorrow. The drs we have seen said cancer is certainly not on their radar but still all I hear is it’s not not on their list, just that there is other things first. The said a penile cyst or lipoma. But still I’m so anxious. My sons is the size of a small pea. On the left side of the shaft under the foreskin, skin coloured. Does that sound like your sons? Mine isn’t in pain with it and is peeing fine. Hope we can help each other through this and I will of course message you tomorrow to let you know what they said as hopefully it will help you..

Heyduggeefanclub · 13/01/2022 11:17

Hello @mrsf1204, sorry to hear you and your son are going through this too.

From what you described it’s very much similar to my sons lump, small pea size shaped on the left side of shaft.

We had our follow up appointment this morning with GP, the lump remains the same. GP is referring us to Paediatrics for further assessment. GP did say there is a waiting list which I understand but of course I am really worried.

I’ve stopped googling as I don’t think it’s helping my situation. It helps others, but I’m just focusing on how my son is from day to day. So far, he is in no pain or discomfort, drinking and weeing fine. No discolouration around the area, no further lumps.

Good luck with your appointment today.
It’s always best to get these things checked out, and also remember lumps can go away on their own too.

We finally have our outpatients appointment this week. I feel very nervous with the outcome as the lump does appear a little bigger now. However my son doesn’t appear to be in any discomfort or I'm wondering if they will do a scan on the same day or do we have to do that another day?
Does anyone have experience of this??

thank you

No experience of this OP, but giving you a handhold and a bump.

CorsicaDreaming · 20/04/2022 14:03

I hope things have gone okay today @Heyduggeefanclub

Heyduggeefanclub · 20/04/2022 22:01

Thank you @CorsicaDreaming @FoxtrotSkarloey the appointment is on Friday. But I must say I’ve become quite overwhelmed the last couple days. I popped back on here to see if anyone had been through this. I’m just not sure what to expect but I probably shouldn’t get myself worked up. So much is going through my mind.

How did the appointment go @Heyduggeefanclub ?

Heyduggeefanclub · 26/04/2022 22:31

It was a very quick appointment, as soon as the Consultant had a look she said it’s Smegma Pearl. I have read up on this as well as other things.

Surely the GP could have diagnosed this?? That’s what I thought as I was leaving the appointment. I did feel I had taken up the consultants time.

Obviously I’m very relieved to know now.

shes told me what to look out for.

Thank you for all your advice and support over this. I do appreciate it.

Hi OP! You must be so relieved! So pleased it turns out it was something completely harmless. And GPs don't know everything😊

Heyduggeefanclub · 11/05/2022 14:21

Hi @Notthissticky , Yes! I am very relieved.😀
I must admit I did worry everyday. From what I understand it’s a common condition, that’s why I’m surprised GP didn’t diagnose it initially. But maybe they just wanted to get it checked first.

Thanks for getting in touch again.
