Hi everyone , dd has a temperature that has occurred overnight last night. she has had calpol throughout the day. She is 22 months , her cheeks are flushed and she’s complaining of ear pain. She doesn’t have a cough but is very rattly on her chest and it’s full of mucus. She has been unusually clingy yesterday and not as active, she generally wants to just sit or lie down. She’s hardly eaten and won’t drink. We have done lateral flow tests on her and she is negative . Her ear temperature is now 39.6. Anyone know what could be causing this. I will be taking her to the walk in center in the morning .

Thanks in advance

@SleighbellsZ she went downhill so quickly. Genuinely clingy Christmas Day not wanting to open any presents then the temperature started. She’s on a few antibiotics .

@Sunshinegirl82 I agree. Pretty certain it isn’t covid on top. But the walk in center advised pcr test just to be on safe side

Good news! How is she now?

M2AL · 28/12/2021 19:42

@StarsandStones still really clingy. Hit abs miss with any kind of food wether it’s ice cream. Just trying to keep giving her as many fluids as we can. She’s so much worse at night. Temperature spiked again last night and she’s struggling to lie down as it hurts more x

I always find the night times hardest when they're poorly. If you can get her to take both calpol and nurofen before bed she might be more comfortable. Is she better if you prop her up? Also I kept the window open a bit and had DS in light pyjamas to try and stop him getting too warm.

I put a bed guard on our bed and sleep with them in with me when poorly (well most of the time to be honest but especially when poorly!)

I'm glad (although not surprised) that the PCR was negative.

So sorry to hear this!

You probably know this, but the pain when lying down is due to the pressure in the Eustachian tube, also resulting from a blocked nose.. So indeed, her ear hurts more when lying down... we used some nasal spray, trying to lessen the blockage in her nose as to minimalise the pressure. And in addition we also got advised to raise the cot or mattress slightly at the headboard.

Did they say what the timeframe is for the antibiotics to kick in? If there is no improvement or even a hint of sepsis I would call again...

I remember so well sitting up all night, our DD sleeping against me upright, me sitting in bed against the wall ... it is terrible and I hope she improves soon.

I found nighttime's hardest too.
Day 3 was a turning point op on ABs.

Things I managed to get my DS to eat whilst ill, even couple mouthfuls;
Yoghurt
Watermelon
Really cold oranges
