Bronchiolitis day 13 in 6 month old help

Hello,

Sorry this is quite a lengthy thread. My DD has bronchiolitis and has been quite sick with it - we’ve had 3 GP, 1 urgent care and 2 to A&E trips in 2 weeks 😩 Both times we went to A&E on day 7&9 her oxygen levels were just within the acceptable range and fever was being controlled by nurofen so they sent us home to ride it out.

She had a runny nose, chesty cough (which makes her choke on the mucus), vomiting, wheezing, low grade fever (day 3-6) and difficulty breathing - slight sucking in around her ribs and chest. Feeding only around 1/3 of her feeds every day but no dehydration signs thankfully.

The only improvements we’ve seen are that she is coughing and wheezing less since Saturday but still choking and vomiting on mucus. She had a fever again Fri & Sat.
But I’m very concerned that she is now getting incredibly upset a lot. She’s a very happy baby but it’s become difficult to soothe or distract her when she gets like this, she refuses her bottle and it can last for a while. We’ve been giving her nurofen when she’s really very upset and once that kicks in she’s like a different baby - happy, babbling and wanting to feed straight away. So something must clearly still be bothering her.

We are at our wits end now as there seems to be no end in sight and we are exhausted.

Has anyone had an experience similiar to this before? Any recommendations on what I should do?

Oh poor you, that sounds really rough. I’m sorry, I don’t have any experience of bronchiolitis but I didn’t want your thread to go unanswered. I’ve no medical expertise so can’t advise (sorry I’m not really being much use!) but as a parent I’d be inclined to go back to the doctor - 13 days sounds a long time for her to be poorly and you’re clearly worried. Bumping for you in the hope you get some more practical advice and sending get well wishes to your little girl x

Hi my DD had bronchiolitus 3 times before she was 18months. Once she was hospitalised for it. It does take a long time for them to get better when they get it. She grew out of it and is now 5 and has no issues now when she gets a virus. You can use paracetamol and Nurofen if required to reduce the fever. We also got a humidifier and elevated the cot to help her breathe when it was bad. Good luck.

Poor little thing having it 3 times. Great to know she’s had no issues since then.
Yes I’ve been doing all those things, thanks so much. It’s mostly her being so upset constantly the last few days and nurofen being the only thing that works I’m concerned about now but maybe I just need to ride it out. Thanks for your reply

Take her back to the Dr's in case it's turned into a chest infection? Dd used to get a chest infection that was virtually silent unless you listened to her chest with a stethoscope

Thank you for your kind message. I more than likely will end up back at the GP’s if no improvement soon I think. X

Bless her heart. There's so much going round. My one year old has her second chest infection this month. Could your baby be teething as well as the bronchiolitis?

I’ve just booked her an app for today. I didn’t realise that could happen! Thank you.

Oh no, poor little thing. I hope she gets better soon. She is teething we think but when she was teething when her bottom front teeth cut, it was some moaning but not this relentless crying like she’s doing now. Could still be the teeth maybe. Going to get her checked over by the GP just Incase anyway.
