None stop colds and coughs

I'm not exaggerating now when I say my 3 year old and 7 month old have had a cold/cough since September!!!! It's obviously not the same one but as soon as they start recovering from one my 3 year old catches another one and then brings it home. It's relentless, it's making my anxiety so high. My 7 month old won't sleep longer than 2/3 hours and I feel like I'm at breaking point. Is anyone else finding the same with their LOs? We are doing covid PCR tests weekly on my 3 year old because she is always symptomatic. Luckily they have all been negative so far but I am at the point of just putting her in a lockdown myself to try and break the cycle of the endless germs and illnesses so we can all just catch a break.
Sorry for my rant! I just feel like I'm at breaking point with it all now.

Yep! We've had an almost weekly PCR test since September because she almost constantly has a cold and cough, I'm hoping the Christmas break from nursery will help!

Dinotruxagain · 03/12/2021 11:39

No better at school this year, DS started reception in September and it's constant colds since, we twice weekly lft, had to go and do 3 pcr tests so far, he's tired, grumpy and generally fed up at the minute.
I'm also holding out hope that the Christmas break will provide some respite!

JaninesEyePatch · 06/12/2021 09:19

I have the same with my DS - he has had a constant cough and blocked nose which will half subside and looks like he's on the mend - then he comes down with something else.
This morning he's woken up with a high temp so needing to get a PCR again. He's only had one full week of school in several weeks! So stressful. Sorry to hear your kids are the same but good to know I'm not the only one.

Same here!

Anjo2011 · 06/12/2021 09:28

Same here . DD aged 10 had a cold after her flu vaccine and had a few days off, then we all got covid 10 days off, she’s off again today with heavy cold . I think some children are just more susceptible than others. Does anyone give their children any vitamin supplements in the winter? I’m thinking of trying some , can’t do any harm surely.

Blondiecub0109 · 06/12/2021 09:29

Same except it’s been since return to nursery ( Scotland) literally since 1 March. Poor DD born June has had a runny nose most of her life. As others, I’m hoping Christmas break quashes it somewhat, only to start again in Jan no doubt. Seriously considering expressing milk for DS to see if it boosts his immunity

LifeIsBusy · 06/12/2021 09:30

Same! We've also had a few sickness bugs thrown in. It's a total joke fest and I don't remember my eldest being ill much before now.

Clevs · 06/12/2021 09:32

Same here, my three year old has had constant coughs, colds and temperatures for the last two months at least. I'm guessing it's because for half of his life he wasn't exposed to anything because of lockdowns so hasn't built up much immunity.

I was giving my two vitamin d spray but I keep forgetting. In the past they've had chewable vits - must get some more.

Yep same here!
3 year old coughs and colds all the time as he goes to nursery. He’s now got a horrible chesty cough and temp. Took for PCR (have done so many this last few months!) and he’s absolutely traumatised by them so I never know if accurate as so hard to do them right!

So fed up of worrying about him all the time and then there’s the added worry of it being Covid. On top of that we have Christmas plans! Already cancelled family meeting tomorrow but at a wedding next weekend I’d rather not even bother with me but it’s the MIL’s and son isn’t coming.. so hoping he’s well enough for someone to have him!

JaninesEyePatch · 11/12/2021 10:52

Yep it's an absolute nightmare.
I spoke to another parent at school yesterday and she said she had spoken to GP who said they are seeing an absolute influx of both children and adults at the surgery with ongoing coughs and colds. Often turning into chest infections and needing antibiotics.
It's all very stressful! Hope everyone's kids get better soon!

thebearandthemare · 13/12/2021 22:06

Same here. I’ve posted a similar thread before and now my LO is feeling pretty warm so I’m gearing up for yet another PCR test. It’s almost embarrassing to tell work it’s happening again so in some ways it’s a comfort to hear it’s not just us. Hideous. My LO seems to spike a temperature for anything!

Notajogger · 13/12/2021 22:13

Yup exactly the same here. And of course I catch everything from DC, DH manages not to somehow Hmm

This happens in our house too 🙄
LowlyTheWorm · 14/12/2021 08:50

Urghhhh. Same here. We’ve now had letters from both kids schools regarding attendance rates (dropped below 80% currently) but what can you do when they’re off for genuine illness?
I’ve had a cold/virus thing for 3 weeks now- chest, throat, ear, sinusitis etc and now back to having glands up and sore throat and ear. Not bacterial as not really unwell unwell- just sore and “meh”… it’s dragging on and on.
Bloody covid.

threebillboards · 14/12/2021 09:08

It's quite normal in the early years with nursery and early school. They do eventually toughen up, but those years are miserable

randomsabreuse · 14/12/2021 09:33

Mine are 6 and 3 and it's a constant judgement call on when there's a "new" cough because they've not stopped coughing since term started. Plus near on continuous "low risk contact" letters for one or the other...

We've ended up with a PCR every couple of weeks (generally for a temperature) and lateral flows for everyone every couple of days - fortunately both will do a swab in return for chocolate...

lillylemons · 14/12/2021 09:42

I've got the same issue with my 4 year old he off again with a cough a temp his pcr test should arrive today and I'm dreading it already its so difficult to get him to test he has ASD and don't understand he has to be held down and I feel so bad about it. Last time he was off we failed to test him it was just to stressful for all involved.

Yep had a letter from my youngest's school too. Just makes you feel more stressed and more likely to send them in when they should really be at home resting. Hope you all feel better soon.
AnxiousWeirdo · 14/12/2021 10:20

My daughters 7 and she's been sick since September as well

Vickles20 · 14/12/2021 20:55

I posted on a simile thread a few days ago.

My ds aged 8 has had a cold since September. It seems to come to a head over the weekend. Then it improves a bit. He looks pale and washed out at times. Crazy. Our other 3 kids are fine. Just him

Beginning to think it’s allergies. I really don’t know. I’m at a loss really. I’ve got 4 kids. He’s my youngest. Never had this before.

He seems ok on himself though. No temperature. No cough. Just congested. Runny nose. And sneezes. Epic sneezes, especially at the weekend. He just perpetually has tissues stuffed up his nose. For months now

FreeBritnee · 14/12/2021 20:58

Same here. We’ve been constantly ill since school went back. No covid but every other fucking bug that’s out there.

thebearandthemare · 14/12/2021 23:42

It’s the repeated temperatures that worry me. Are we the only ones dealing with temps every few weeks? It can be difficult to see a GP and sometimes I think I’m over reacting but I just don’t think it can be normal to have a fever so often! LO has had check ups and nothing has been picked up but it really worries me.

randomsabreuse · 15/12/2021 07:23

Temperatures are our main PCR trigger as the coughs are basically there...

Some kids react to a new bug with a temperature, not unusual at all. Time to be worried is where the temperature either doesn't respond to Calpol/Ibuprofen or hangs around responding to these but always coming back for 5 days or more (NICE guidelines to get antibiotics).

DH and DD are going for a PCR today as DH has acquired a cough and DD's has got sufficiently worse that in our judgement it's not the same one. Been about every 2 weeks since September and I'm heartily sick of it.

DS (3) has always had more temperatures than DD (6), they just seem to react differently to bugs.

Remember they've all had 18 months with very limited exposure to the general cold bugs so they're catching up on 2 winters' worth!
