2 year old hardly drinking - is he OK?

My 23 month old has had some kind of stomach bug - he's hardly eaten over the past few days and thrown up 3 or 4 times. I'm now getting slightly concerned about dehydration as I noticed this morning his nappy was completely dry and similarly this afternoon he had a dry nappy. He's not been drinking much but did have about 3oz of milk before bed and has had a few sips of water during the day. He's been quite bubbly and his normal self, apart from sleeping a bit more. He's eaten slightly more today.

He's now in bed asleep and I'm worried I should have tried harder to get him to drink today... should I wake him up to give him some squash or something he might take? Or do you think the milk he had before bed and the bits of water he has had today will see him through the night?

I think the milk will see him through - young children can get low blood sugar when ill like this after a nights sleep (fast). So I would wake him on the early side of normal and get drink/milk/breakfast into him. If at that stage still dry nappy and/or little intake get seen - or if I take happens bit dry nappy still needs to be seen.

If middle of the night or early hours worried about dehydration or low blood sugar - (have a Google of ketotic hypoglycemia aka toddler low blood sugar) then go earlier -

When most kids fast they can last 18+ hrs at that age so should be ok - but if in doubt go with your gut!

Sorry windowstothesoul and Ceecee, just seen your replies! He is all better now thanks 😊 I ended up getting him up at 3am as I couldn't sleep from worry, gave him squash and a few sips lasted him through the night and he got much better from then on! Thanks x
