Hello,

Last saturday night DS(4.5) threw up many times during the night. He was so tired and didn't get much sleep. We both got up at about 5, went downstairs and he had a big glass of milk and bowl of cheerios. No temp, all seems fine except he's not eating a lot throughout the day and bit tired.

Sunday night slept very well. No temp at all. Monday morning he seems very well, cheery, no temp all seems to have gone. He went to school. Monday night though, 😣 threw up again, very broken sleep, got up in the morning he tried to eat something but he couldn't. I decided to keep him at home. This time I feel he's bit warm to touch. He's very tired but is now sitting in his room playing blocks.

I am now googling and norovirus come up. I am unsure because he's not throwing up all the time.

Also, school sent out a letter saying some kids whos covid positive showing symptoms of upset stomach(I don't know if they mean diarrhoea or vomiting).

He's staying at home and we might get him tested. I don't know whats going on but bit worried.

Have you done a LFT or a PCR on him?

toomuchlaundry · 30/11/2021 07:46

Why are you sending him into school when he has been sick, don’t you have the 48 hour rule?

whitehorsesdonotlie · 30/11/2021 07:53

Why did you send him in on Monday? 🙄 you're supposed to keep a child at home for 48 hours after D or V. Bloody hell.

It don't sound like norovirus - that tends to be more extreme and lays longer.

Could be Covid.

Sombra · 30/11/2021 07:54

There are stomach bugs going round dc schools and dd was off last week with it. Doesn't help that people don't follow the 48 hour rule.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 30/11/2021 07:58

Why on Earth did you send him in Monday! Utterly selfish.

521Jeanie · 30/11/2021 08:02
  1. He shouldn't have been in school on Monday having thrown up violently and repeatedly on Sat night. That he's been sick again on Monday night absolutely confirms this.
  2. We might get him tested [for Covid], you say. For goodness sake, you should have done this on Sunday morning!
  3. Think of all the classmates that you've potentially infected with something nasty! If a child has been ill, you should NOT be seeing them into school until you're certain they're better (especially in the currently climate).
DingleyDel · 30/11/2021 08:03

Agree it was really shitty to send him in on Monday. As far as you knew then it was noro and that could wipe out half the class and their households with it. I know lots of young dc who have had intermittent vomiting and diarrhoea with covid. Apparently it’s the more common symptom in children so I’d probably get a pcr.

peanutandpumkin · 30/11/2021 08:08

Ok I did not know the 48 hr rule. I am going to inform school.

It is very ignorant, selfish and stupid on on my part and i am going to let the parents know. I will get him tested.

I should have known, I really should have know. I feel like I let down

DD had a virus like that - it wasn't intense enough for norovirus but vomiting on and off for days with lethargy and then turned into a sore throat and cough. Only temp at the beginning. Based on combination of symptoms my best guess was adenovirus but basically the GP said it was a virus of some sort. There are many going round, they don't all have common names. She took 12 days to get over it but she's only one so hopefully yours will shake it quicker (and yes, we did PCR, was not COVID)

lynntheyresexpeople · 30/11/2021 08:11

I won't repeat what's said but you know for next time.
With no cough or temp it's very unlikely to be Covid, though you should do a lft to be sure.
It's extremely likely it's a stomach bug. They're doing the rounds. If he's well in himself, and drinking plenty with no temp, just keep him home until he's 48 hours clear of any vomiting or upset stomach.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/11/2021 08:18

Do the lateral flow test, make sure he is staying hydrated (sips of water rather than a big drink), offer dry toast, banana, applesauce etc, and monitor his temperature. It's not unusual for bugs to come and go, hence the 48 hour rule.

Obviously if it is Covid, inform the school, but most likely it's just a bog standard bug.

SeaToSki · 30/11/2021 08:21

I would stay away from feeding him dairy or protein for a couple of days. That tends to prolong the bug. Stick to toast, bananas and crackers with water to drink for a day or so.
As long as he is drinking and peeing well, try and ride it out for a bit longer

peanutandpumkin · 30/11/2021 08:43

Thank you, I will do that.

Informed the school and everyone. So hes staying away until this clears

I found when my children were very young, they'd have a bad bout of norovirus and then it would come back more mildly a day or so later, so it absolutely could be norovirus

Delta typically doesn't present with a cough or temp. I had covid in September and my main symptoms were extreme fatigue and a really sore throat. I never had any of the main symptoms.
Icewiththat · 02/12/2021 21:39

My2 yo has this. Was jumping on the sofa and doing headstands on Sunday, after a load of milk, and ever so slightly sick so blamed that. Absolutely fine. Sick on Monday really baldly, pretty much the whole day. Clingy, out of sorts all day. Then fine all of Tuesday. Sick on school run yesterday. Now awaiting PCR results as she’s started a cough and cold…

DukkaDukka · 02/12/2021 22:04

Stomach symptoms were my children’s first symptoms of covid.

Icewiththat · 03/12/2021 11:09

We had a negative through this morning.
Yes, I’ve heard lots starting like this too

steppemum · 03/12/2021 15:06

when I had covid, I felt exhausted and veyr sick and then threw up for 24 hours.
Then the more traditional symptoms kicked in.
I never lost my sense of taste.

So he might well have Covid.
Don't beat yourself up, lesson learned, look after yourself too as you might get sick
