Worried diabetes

I have two dd’s. The youngest has glucose/hormone issues.

The eldest (15) has been complaining of severe headaches after eating. Every meal. She is very health conscious, vegetarian, and eats really well. But everytime she eats, she feels sick and gets a severe headache.
I’ve been doing the ‘watch and see’ approach. However tonight was fairly bad so I did her blood sugars.
Her first reading was 16.3. I made her wash her hands well and dry them. The second reading was 11.3.

In the past when encouraging my youngest to do her glucose levels, my eldest was about 10 randomly.

I’ve just tested her wee and her ketones are black on the scale. The highest colour is dark purple so basically it’s off the chart.

Could this be diabetes? Or is this just some random thing.

I’m worried but also trying to be realistic

I would be concerned about diabetes. Honestly, I’d take her to A&E just to be safe.

bluecandicane · 28/11/2021 23:16

Yes it definitely could be you need to get her checked out

Rekorderlig88 · 28/11/2021 23:19

Those, numbers would be lowish for diagnosis.

Haggisfish3 · 28/11/2021 23:20

I agree. I’d be off to a and e.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/11/2021 23:24

Definitely A&E tonight. With ketones off the chart, as well as high sugars, may well be developing diabetic ketoacidosis. Which needs properly treating as an emergency. Please, please, get to A&E. Right now.

I hope you are ok and got the answers you needed from A&E.

lightswitchmoment · 04/12/2021 21:52

I think 13+ is enough to diagnose diabetes. Hope she was ok and it isn't but if it is there is lots of support available and life will go back to normal. Thanks

A&E is the best place at this time of night. I'm pretty sure 111 would send you there anyway.

Flossie44 · 04/12/2021 22:13

Thank you. So wierd. She’s had a few readings over 10. However the gp tested and it was normal.
HBA1c was normal too, if not low at 3.4!!
So they’re repeating bloods in a month.

Feel very confused!! Our monitor works as we’ve often checked all of us to have a baseline.

Hi my daughter is similar.
She is undiagnosed with possible reactive hypoglycaemia.
Gone on for years. She's 5 and we self fund a CGM to keep her safe. She goes from 3.4 ish to 19 v quickly and back down

Flossie44 · 04/12/2021 22:36

Wow this is so interesting.
My younger daughter is diagnosed with reactive hypoglycaemia. She’s hit 1.2 on occasions from eating sugar!! Her insulin releases and goes wild. She crashes.
This is why I have a monitor at home
