Cradle cap tips

LO is 4 months old and has the worst cradle cap all over her scalp. It even used to be on her forehead and eyebrows and in between her eyes but that went cos in the end I just picked it off and it never came back.

This cradle cap on her scalp though is so thick and hard and it seems to be really irritating her. She's always rubbing her head into me and trying to get at her head with her hands but obviously she can't reach. I've tried everything I feel like, comb and oil (olive and coconut) tried cradle cap shampoo, nothing seems to make it budge. It's really thick on her scalp I just feel so sorry for her now.

Has anyone got any special tips and tricks I can use cos the doctors just keep saying it will go on its own but it hasn't

Dr prescribed nizorel for DN really bad cradle cap, it cleared up in just a couple of washes.

I cleared DC’s up with my Lansinoh nipple cream but I don’t think it was anywhere near as bad as your DD is suffering.

Coconut oil rub on scalp, leave on, get baby brush and brush in circular motions.

Then wash

I washed my little boys hair in epaderm, used it exactly as you would shampoo and it cleared up after a few washes but your child's sounds worse than what he had.

I think if you pick it, it does make it worse. We gently washed DDs hair every night, lathered the baby bath soap into her hair at the start of the bath letting it stay on until the end so it could 'soak in'. Never picked it. And as a result she never lost any of her newborn hair and it's really thick now.

Loyon was like magic for us.

Do try not to pick at it because it can easily get infected. I killed me not being able to pick at it!

Hedrin (nit treatment) isn't suitable until 6 months, but we found it got rid of nits, and quite unexpectedly, sorted cradle cap at the same time

BobMortimersTrout · 22/11/2021 20:03

Yep, advice is not to pick it, and Epaderm worked for us too

PerseverancePays · 22/11/2021 20:24

My little grandson had thick patches of it and We used to let it soak In the bath and afterwards comb gently with the nit comb. It took a while but we did get rid of it.

For me - eliminating the food they were allergic to from my diet. Severe cradle cap can be a warning sign of allergies

starfishmummy · 22/11/2021 20:29

Cradle cap shampoo and cream and then when it was wet I used a nit comb which helped get rid of loose flakes

A paediatrician can prescribe medication which will clear it completely. Nothing OTC worked for us.

Chrysanthemum5 · 22/11/2021 20:32

We used a sea sponge to gently wash the scalp it seemed to work well

northernmamax · 23/11/2021 18:17

Thanks everyone will give the ones I haven't tried a go and keep persevering!

@KeyboardWorriers yes, she has CMPA which the doctor said is what made it all flare up in the first place, it was all over her face at first, switched to special formula and it went on her face but it's still bad on her scalp.

Put vaseline thickly all over after a bath in the evening. Leave in overnight so it properly soaks in. Then use a rough cotton cloth and give it rub like you're towelling your hair. That lifted it off of mine quite well.
