Hi all, so for the last 8 months we have seen multiple Doctors to identify an issue with our almost 2yr old son & still no further.

He gets very itchy bumps on different parts of his body: upper arms, upper legs, face that come and go randomly but most noticeable at night. He wakes up screaming almost every night.

At first we thought was scabies. GP said its not, took him to a private Doctor who said its scabies. Did scabies treatment, twice on all of us. Went away but came back. Seen other Doctors and spoken to pharmacists, most say its not scabies. Neither my husband nor I have got it.

Although the day my son was born my husband has been getting itchy skin thst he takes antihistamines for. Doctors say its a coincidence although my husband doesn't get any bumps.

We are at a total loss what to do so if anyone can shed any light. Yes antihistamines seem to work but we don't want to give them constantly, especially without diagnosing the cause. It really is affecting our son's mental and physical well being.

Many thanks in advance

It looks like allergy/urtiy. Try to use fragrance-free soap/wipes...etc. Don't let him get hot. Watch his food, what triggers it? Get his skin moisturised and don't let him scratch it as it's gonna make it worse.

In nutshell, it doesn't look like something serious!

Bless him 🙂

Looks like urticaria, and if it's been going on that long, chronic urticaria. My DD had the same around that age. We think it was originally triggered by a virus.

If it is that, it's unlikely that you will be able to find a specific cause, because it's not an ongoing allergic reaction to anything. It's just that the mast cells in the skin got "overexcited" by something at the outset and are taking a while to calm down again.

The only thing which helps is antihistamine. Our DD took it almost continuously - I don't think there is any problem with that.

We did see a consultant paediatrician at the time, who said she would grow out of it, and she did (I think it lasted about 18 months).

Glad your DD grew out of it. We're pretty sure the itching started long before when he was a baby and thinking along the virus line as weird both husband and son have it.

Dr said it would go away after a while for my husband but 2 years now and still no sign of disappearing. We read about Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, relatively new diagnosis and not understood condition where mast cells go haywire.

Hopefully it will go away for both of them
