Visible node in neck

Hi

My son (4YO) had a really bad cough and cold for weeks on end over Christmas and new year 2019 (he was 2 at the time). Once it had cleared up my mum noticed the lump which we know was a little node and I booked him a GP appointment. The GP said it was normal to feel these in a child's neck and not to worry.

I stopped worrying about the node cause the GP said he was fine. He's hardly ever poorly, has an appetite to rival my husband and his very active and happy - doesn't complain about being unwell.

The last couple of weeks I've noticed it again. I've had a feel or a look periodically but tried not to stress about it. It's still there and I can see it when he turns his head a certain way if I'm looking closely. It's no bigger, moveable and I think soft. The only thing making me worry about it is that he gets lots of bruises on his legs and my mum pointed the node out again. The bruises I just assumed were from being a very active child running and playing outside every day / falling off the bike and just being a generally rough and tumble young boy.

Would you worry about this ? I can't get it out of my head that it could be something more and have read about bruising and lumps in neck in relation to leukaemia but I know little about this. I am a worrier at the best of times. I'm going to book another GP appointment for next week but just wanted to know if anyone else noticed or felt nodes in their 3/4 years olds necks? Or anyone had any looked into by a GP? Smile thanks in advance

Mine all have had visible nodes in their necks at some point when they were 4 and under.
Bruises on legs again are fairly normal.

What to look out for is bruising on areas like the torso (unless there's a known reason) which are less easily bruised. (know someone who had bruises in their mouth which was their alarm bell).

When my ds was 8yo he was investigated for leukaemia, which was down to fatigue (he would fall asleep in the middle of working at school for example), general lack of energy, mild regular temperatures and picking up every bug that went anywhere near him-that was roughly three every fortnight!

If he's active, hardly ever ill, and happy, then I would be surprised if there was anything more to it. If you're still worried, then do talk to your GP and explain they've been there for a while and I'm sure they'll reassure you.

@MargaretThursday thanks so much for your reassuring reply. I think it's seeing it on one side that shocks me!
He is active and happy and he doesn't pick up a lot of infections. I checked him over again last night and he definitely only has leg bruises.
On reflection I do wonder if the cough/flu he had over Xmas 2018 and into Jan 2019 was Covid looking back and that the node has just never gone down. We'll never know! Thank you again

I’m worrying about the same thing. My 5 year old has a lump in his neck, it was visible last week, now it’s not really visible but I can still feel it. I’ve got health anxiety so my mind is running away, I’ll probably just get him checked but the only thing that will reassure me is it going!
