4 year old sick in the night

Hi, DS1 is 4 years old and for the past 7 days has been throwing up once/twice in the night (usually between 1-2am). He's fine in himself, no temperature, eating as normal, not complaining of pain anywhere and only feels sick directly before he vomits.

Any advice on what it could be? GP says a stomach bug which is lingering and will clear on its own or potentially stress with starting school/being tired as the terms goes on.

Feeling a bit lost as to what to do, what to avoid and how to help!

Thanks all!

While it would be extremely rare... night time vomiting can be caused by increased brain pressure caused by a tumour.

Head Smart
Really rare - but as the mother of a kid who had a tumour I find it difficult not to share this info.
I hope it's a virus which passes quickly.

Often viruses behave like this in children. I hope the vomiting stops, but if not speak to your Dr and don't be scared to say you are worried x

Could it be something he's eating at night? Well before bed that he might have developed an intolerance to?

Thank you all for your replies!

He's still not himself but the nighttime vomiting has decreased and been replaced with an upset tummey during the day.

His school actually sent out an email just after I posted saying there was an increase in sickness and diarrhoea doing the rounds so I suspect he's come down with that. Spoke to his GP as it's gone on for over a week and he advised nil by mouth for 24 hours and lots of plain foods/no dairy for a few days afterwards.

Hoping he gets over it soon as it's awful seeing them poorly. Can cope with colds and flus but sickness bugs are a whole different breed!xxx
