Disimpaction - school age dc

My dc has severe constipation, we need to do the faecal disimpaction regime.

Has anyone done this with your child if they are going to school? How often do they need to go, or is it a stay by the toilet scenario?

If it’s particularly disruptive do you just wait until the holidays? Wondering what to do. Would really appreciate to hear what others have done.

We naively did this on a weekend away with friends... Not a good idea! Definitely need to stay close to easily accessibly toilet for quite a while. Would have been a nightmare at school for us and was also quite uncomfortable for the child.

My child did this age 3. There were 6-8 large movements per day for a least a week. I would stay home. We were in hospital for the first part and I could not believe what came out.

Thanks for the replies. How many days does it take for the laxative effect to kick in properly?

Think we might have to delay until near the end of term so we can do it the week before Christmas. But need to plan so the worst is over before Christmas Day.
