Vaginal soreness in 11yr old

My 11 yr old has complained of soreness for the last few weeks. It isn't itchy just generally sore and if she doesn't drink much it stings after she's had a wee. Sudacrem stings as does another cream I tried but can't remember the name of. Conotrane cream seems to be the most soothing but isn't really clearing it up. Any advice anyone. TIA

My small suggestion is don't apply any artificial cream on private area. It may be makes some side effects. Try to apply some coconut oil, if the soreness is normal. Otherwise seek doctor help.

I've had similar before from a reaction to a scented sanitary towel, can make it very very sore and stingy after going to the toilet. I would see if she can use some vaseline as a sort of barrier for a week, try to go underwear free at home with loose trousers on, wash undies and trousers in just water and then ask the pharmacist or gp for advice if no improvement after a few days

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions.

To clarify it's soreness of the vulva rather than vagina, I should have been more specific.

I've followed the suggestions re Ovex, rinsing undies after washing. Looked up Lichen Sclerosis and it doesn't seem anything like that.

The soreness has slightly improved following the advice. If it continues I'll persevere with trying to get through to GP.

Thanks everyone

If it was thrush I think you’d expect it to be sore inside the vagina too, so the answer is likely to be dermatological rather than an infection.

If it’s soreness just of the skin of the vulva, and not inside the vagina, then it’s likely to be vulvovaginitis - Google for some good NHS leaflets on this - it’s skin irritation most often caused by scented products. I suffered from this in my twenties and it didn’t go away until I realised it was largely down to the shower gels and washing liquid I was using. Switching to Simple / unscented bath products and Surcare washing liquid sorted it out, but it took a few days to resolve.

Even now I find that if I use any scented product or wash my knickers with a fragranced laundry liquid it will quickly come back. It seems to be the fragrance rather than anything else that sets it off for me. Anyway, I would try that for your DD - wash with just water on the vulva, and only use Simple products or unfragranced laundry liquid for a bit and see if that helps. Oh and remind her about careful wiping after a poo and wiping backwards away from the vulva - any bacteria getting on the skin will also make it sore.

If it doesn’t resolve, see GP for further investigations. Good luck OP!

She needs to see go. Could be UTI, cystitis, thrush which all need specific treatment.

Switch to non bio, non scented washing powder ( I personally love Fairy), and also canesten cream for a week or so. Hth.
