My DD has this, started off on her lower legs and has spread all to the top of her legs, seems to be getting worse rather than better and we're around two years in, I know the NHS website says to ride it out, but does anyone know anything that can help it?

Sorry, I’m afraid not. We tried everything and then gave up it just disappeared after about two years.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/11/2021 09:07

Molludab from Amazon - but it stings terribly so we had to stop using it but it does work!

Bagelsandbrie · 13/11/2021 09:08

Molludab Molluscum Solution, 2 ml www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IN08Q0A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NHAHZQQAQ0FPSW1YAWCF?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Find the biggest on and pull it off. The body doesn’t realise the virus (I think it’s a virus not bacteria) is there and doesn’t fight it off. Once the ‘mother’ spot is pulled off, the body detects the virus and starts to fight it off and the other spots disappear. At least that’s the explanation I remember and it did work when DS had them.

That is actually correct and that’s the basis that molludab works on - ie attacking the spot and causing the body to fight back against the virus.
Miraloma · 13/11/2021 09:12

Came to say the same as @LadyCatStark it's such a low level thing your body doesn't know to fight it. Find the 'Queen' and pop it out... it's like a little pearl that will pop out, then the rest will disappear!

hidinginquote · 13/11/2021 09:18

Interesting to read possible solutions, son is having the same issue!

Haggisfish3 · 13/11/2021 09:22

Our mother spot was removed (inadvertently by my mother) and became hideously infected. Required strong antibiotics. Mother spot gone, immune system definitely alerted but other spots still there and also not going away.

DinkyDaisy · 13/11/2021 09:25

It gets worse looking before it gets better.
My eldest had infected spots. Molludab on youngest that did seem to make process quicker.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/11/2021 09:27

If the spots get infected the GP can prescribe something called Dermol cream which is an antibacterial moisturiser which helps. (It’s a step down from Fucidin which is an antibiotic so you can use it on larger areas).

MySaladDaysAreGone · 13/11/2021 09:29

Another vote for popping (worked on son) and molludab (worked on daughter) !

badheadday · 13/11/2021 09:29

One of mine has this for around 2 years. I thought it would never get better but it did eventually go away on its own. It just took time.

annlee3817 · 13/11/2021 09:30

Thanks everyone, I may give the molludab a try on the mother spot then and see how we go, she's six so will avoid trying to get rid of the mother by pulling it off as don't think she'll let us

My gp recommended colloidal silver spray for my son which was painless and worked!

MrsWooster · 13/11/2021 10:15

We used tea tree oil cream on both dc and it worked eventually-but all after scratching had alerted the immune system to their presence so who knows-at least the cream prevented the scratched /open ones getting infected 🤷

Angel2702 · 13/11/2021 10:44

My sons kept bleeding constantly so we did squeeze the few biggest ones. Went very quickly after that, much better than letting him be bleeding every time he did sports for two years.

ChateauMargaux · 13/11/2021 11:33

Homeopathy... (and yes.. I know... quackery, charlatans, sugar pills, no active ingredient etc) but it worked for us. .. on 2 kids on two seperate occasions.

Bbnel · 13/11/2021 19:04

Both my children had this. We tried to ride it out for so long . And with both of them they cleared up after we used molludab on them. We didn’t even use it particularly well - not on every spot and not religiously twice a day. But it seemed to trigger the process of clearing up in both the children

Frostytiger87 · 14/11/2021 14:57

Hi , I fully sympathise , my child had molluscum behind norm her legs and around the back of her knees it looked awful . She hates wearing her pe kit as other kids would back away from her and ask what the horrible spots were she was very self conscious .
After a visit to our Gp we was advised to ride it out , I was paranoid the whole family would catch and tried loads of remedies which didn’t help & made it much worse or burnt her delicate skin .

Somebody recommended Sambucol I was willing to try anything , it actually worked as the weeks went by the molluscum disappeared, I’ll never know if it would have cleared up anyway but give it a go there’s nothing to loose and it saves the tears of burning her skin with various lotions

@Frostytiger87 thanks will have a look at that, she was in tears tonight when I applied the molludab on a particularly big spot :(

It really is worth a go Annlee , I feel so sorry for your child it’s so frustrating to get rid off .
Nothing I tried work , every night was the same routine of putting on lotions , she had her own towels as well . The skin on her legs was red she used to get so upset .
Try Sambucol give it a week or so to kick in
Let us know how you get on .

@LadyCatStark @Miraloma @Bagelsandbrie (and anyone else who can help!) When my oldest was little, we finally had them scraped, and scraping the mother and mature ones caused the others to disappear as well. (beetlejuice was used on the smaller ones at the time.) My youngest has them now (15 yrs later). We went straight for beetlejuice, which worked on one and not on others. The 'mother' got infected last week, the other larger two just got angry, and a new one formed, got angry, and all of these seem to be healing...I did put iodine on them this week. Just finished the antibiotics. BUT I'm now seeing tons of new shiny tiny spots.... do you think these are new ones that will have to mature and go through the long process, or do you think it's part of the body's rally to get the virus out, and they'll just fade away? I don't know whether or not to put something on them. Meanwhile I'm loading her up on zinc, C, ACV, elderberry, probiotics...tons of stuff internally. Thanks for any info!

alaceyc · 30/05/2022 05:54

@annlee3817 did the sambucol work?

alaceyc · 30/05/2022 05:55

@ChateauMargaux What homeopathic remedies were used that worked?

annlee3817 · 30/05/2022 06:14

@alaceyc not really, the moludab worked in the end, we made sure we dipped the stick back in the solution for every spot, also used the Epsom bath salts for kids, it did look worse for a couple of weeks, and the moludab stung but then started to scab, and they've all gone now.
