Child getting a stitch when walking

My 12 year old keeps complaining of a pain in her side when walking - it sounds like a stitch but it happens just on short walks it seems to be on the left side although i have to be honest i dont remember exactly if if is only there Blush we dont walk fast just a slow walk to the train etc.

It doesnt seem massively painful but im noticing her mention it more and more

I just wondering if this was common at this age or if it was anything to worry about?

Does she do much exercise? Is it possible that she’s just really unfit?

I haven’t had a stitch for years and years, but I remember as a child getting them really frequently. My 5 year old complains about them a lot (on short walks), but I think she just doesn’t like walking!

Sorry, not very helpful, hopefully someone more knowledgable will be along soon

She does karate and she seems fairly fit - shes quite tall and slim, i am middle aged and not fit Grin and the walks i am talking about are just slow easy walks even for me!

I did the maybe its because she has had a lot if height growth the last year or so (shes 5’3 now!

My DC were always getting stitches on the walks to school. They were all very fit but randomly complained of stitches sometimes. They don't anymore so must've grown out of it, all late teens now.

Just get her to stretch a bit before any walking.

I know nothing about children’s health, just here from Active, but has she eaten or drank before she complains of a stitch? I walk regularly quite briskly and don’t struggle with distances, but last weekend after leaving a restaurant I had to ask my family to slow down after about five of walking because of a stitch. I only ever get them after food or drink and it doesn’t seem connected to fitness for me.

My 11yo DD always seems to get a stitch, even when we're only going on a short walk. I don't remember my older ones complaining of this so I've been a bit worried about what it might be. Seeing that other kids are the same is quite reassuring!

My 10 year old daughter often gets a stitch when she’s walking too. She’s fit and healthy and also very tall and slim.
I remember getting a stitch when I was a child too and can’t remember having one as an adult even when exercising strenuously.
Sorry no help but it does seem to be a thing.

Ok so it seems to be fairly normal!
Thanks!

My 13 year old gets stitches regularly even though she is quite fit and does a lot of sport at school. She's dyspraxic though so all her muscles are quite weak. It does help with a stitch if you breath in and whilst doing that, push the stomach out. Then repeat a few times. Don't know why it works, but I learnt it whilst doing the Couch to 5k and it does work...

I would think walking itself would be a good warm up so you can’t really add anything before. I don’t think cold stretching would help. Not with current thinking, I know we used to stretch before exercise 30 years ago.
