Viral infections

I'm just looking for some re assurance with toddlers and viral infections

Sunday DS 16 months wasn't right

Sunday night / Monday am his temp spiked and we struggled to get it down. Eventually after a battle with gp and 111 got him an appointment Monday night and the diagnosed a viral throat infection. Nothing prescribed but said we should see improvements Wednesday and Thursday ( today)

I am just struggling as he is so unlike himself it's been a struggle. He's usually the happiest bubbliest and constantly moving little man but since Sunday he's just spent a lot of time lying on the sofa .

We have seen improvements. The fever is gone. He is still refusing most food but is drinking and he is spending longer playing with his toys since yesterday but any play is followed by him needing a nap or just flopping on the floor

Since yesterday he's also started vomiting a bit. Not proper sick but he is bringing his milk back up every so often and he isn't a sickly baby, he has a cough which the dr knows about and the cough is causing the vomit we think. ( covid negative )

The dr told me to call 111 today if the fever wasn't gone the fever is gone but I'm just concerned he hasn't bounced back as much as I hoped and the vomiting is a new symptom.

Anyone had similar? How long did they take to recover ?

It can take 7-10 days for them to feel better
I'm afraid.
Always found viral infections harder as no meds so takes longer to recover

Thank you for replying! This makes me feel better. I think I just hate the not knowing and seeing him so poorly and worrying it's something more

It's hard isn't it, they can cope without food the main thing is getting fluid into them.
I find the below good to get my DS to eat whilst ill;
Watermelon
Ice lollies
Yoghurt
Ice cream

Of course if you still aren't 100% and are worried give GP a ring for some reassurance.

We were at ooh last night with my much older little boy (he has scarlet fever) and the GP said that they are seeing so many little children who are struggling to get over viruses. She commented that run of the mill viruses are really wiping children out. So I think if the gp remarked upon it then it's probably a thing iyswim.

With a little one, they won't mind checking again if necessary.

Thank you everyone! I just had a telephone call with my GP and he was basically saying the same that viral infections are currently taking a while to shift

He said only should be concerned if he goes backwards but for staying the same and small improvements that should be fine.

Apparently the vomiting can come on!

It's so hard but thank you all for reassuring me
