Positives vs negatives?

OP posts:

For. Flu kills, even the healthiest of toddlers.

ApricotShandy · 09/11/2021 19:56

For. No downsides.

firstimemamma · 09/11/2021 19:56

For. Why would anyone be against? It's so important.

amymel2016 · 09/11/2021 19:56

For. As above.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 09/11/2021 19:58

For. Have you seen how cash strapped the NHS is? It wouldn’t be funding free-to-us vaccines if it wasn’t beneficial.

TrufflyPig · 09/11/2021 19:59

Positives: Not dying of flu.

Negatives: None.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/11/2021 20:01

For. It’s a no brainer

Starcaller · 09/11/2021 20:01

@TrufflyPig

Positives: Not dying of flu.

Negatives: None.

Yes. This.
TurdCrapley · 09/11/2021 20:01

For. My 3 year old had it for the first time this year, it was over in 10 seconds. He had a cold afterwards but that could've been from preschool.

NerrSnerr · 09/11/2021 20:01

For- all of us who are eligible have it in our house. Flu is awful and can be deadly serious.

JC2021 · 09/11/2021 20:06

Thank you 🙏

@Aishah231 does every single person you know who gets the flu jab gets actual flu every single year?

GoodnightGrandma · 10/11/2021 07:37

Absolutely have it.

Slayduggee · 10/11/2021 07:42

The nasal flu vaccine does not have mercury in it

For, especially this year when they reckon there will be more flu:colds flying round. I had my DDs a few weeks ago and we were in and out in about 2 mins. No tears at all.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/11/2021 07:47

For, total no brainer

Positives - it could save their life
Negative - they might cry for 3 seconds

CherryRedDMs · 10/11/2021 07:48

Nobody has natural immunity to an illness that changes each year, that’s the whole point.
Getting flu from the vaccine or being more likely to get it after the vaccine have been demonstrated to be wrong. I wonder if the PPs infected friends are actually swabbed for influenza or are self-diagnosing a bad cold or other virus.
People who are eligible for the vaccine are more vulnerable and therefore more likely to be ill with various viruses.
My toddlers had it every year as they often get pneumonia.
It’s not only that flu can kill, it’s also that it can damage the heart etc.

SickAndTiredAgain · 10/11/2021 07:51

For. If I could actually get an appointment my daughter, my surgery still don’t have it, or know when they’re getting it.

toomuchlaundry · 10/11/2021 07:53

You can’t get flu from the flu vaccine as it doesn’t contain the live virus, so those adults were wrong @Aishah231
The nasal spray is different but I think it has very weak live virus so very unlikely to cause flu.

NerrSnerr · 10/11/2021 08:50

@Aishah231 do you have any evidence anywhere to suggest the nasal spray contains mercury because the NHS states that it doesn't.

Ah seen that @Aishah231 has been deleted. I assume for posting inaccurate rubbish.

Actually, the nasal flu vaccine does contain live flu virus in it. The flu virus, while alive, is attenuated, which basically means weakened. This means the vaccine cannot cause flu in the recipient or others by viral shedding post vaccine but it can cause flu symptoms such as runny nose, blocked nose- which for some asthmatics can trigger their asthma.

Which is one reason why children with severe asthma get the flu shot instead of the nasal spray. The other reason is that the flu shot is actually more effective than the nasal spray in terms of immunity response and asthmatics need the best protection more than nonasthmatics from flu. (Nasal spray is cheaper)

All my DC got the annual flu vaccine, the two with severe asthma were given the flu shot not the nasal spray.

Here is the NHS webpage if anyone has any questions about what I posted. I have not post any misinformation.

For. I've had mine now for 20 years and my kids have both had it for as long as they've been eligible.
This is coming from someone who was sceptical about the Covid vaccine due to some medical issues I had (had my first 3 weeks ago)
Please give your child the nasal spray. Flu is awful, I had it once at 14- hadn't had my flu jab that year. And I've never had it since!
