Hi , my dd will be needing a lot of dental treatment at the hospital including the extraction of a canine tooth . At our last visit an expander was advised by her consultant , however after reading up I’ve read that they can be very painful
We have an appt to fit the spacers in Dec and I’m
Very concerned as she has her mock GCSE’S in Jan and doesn’t manage discomfort well
I’m just worried that pain will effect her exams
I was thinking about putting the treatment off did a while but when is a good time as she has her GCSE’s in May and I think the sooner we get dental treatment started the better

Any advice greatly appreciated

I had a dental expander as a young teen and I don't remember it being particularly painful or uncomfortable.

Personally I would get her treatment started sooner rather than later, before sixth form/college.

Hi Einzwei , Thankyou for your reply I agree she should start treatment asap
I think maybe we read up on too much , did you have discomfort with the spacers ?
Was it worth having the expander ?
