Is it just on his face? My cmpa son had it like this but all over him. He is very cute!

minipie · 09/11/2021 11:40

Baby acne. DD2 had it (more than your DC) and didn’t have CMPA.

MrsCremuel · 09/11/2021 11:47

@Newuser82 thank you! It’s spreading to his scalp and chest now. Getting angrier and comes with other symptoms - very unsettled (crying, groaning, arching back etc) at night and around feeds, won’t be laid down flat, vinegar smelling nappies etc, silent reflux. I’ve cut milk out for a week so far and his nappies smell like normal breastfed nappies now - sweeter rather than vinegary.

I wondered if this was another CMPA symptom.

Maybe worth mentioning to the health visitor. As it certainly could be, especially with the other symptoms. I found our health visitor really helpful and we put him onto a prescription formula. It cleared up all his symptoms really quickly. Best of luck x

Well done for cutting milk out. Could be CMPA and there’s no harm in testing that theory. Take care not to replace dairy with soya (a lot of CMPA babies are also allergic to soya).

MrsCremuel · 09/11/2021 13:01

@Meandmini3 it’s torture Sad honestly didn’t realise how milk and dairy heavy my diet is! Realised about the soya on day 2 so have cut that too.

I’m on breastfeeding CMPA baby 3. I go dairy, egg and soya free towards the end of pregnancy. It’s not too bad.

Newuser82 · 09/11/2021 14:21

There are loads of dairy replacements. My son is still dairy free so if I can help at all just shout

mishmased · 13/11/2021 00:50

@MrsCremuel how're things now? My baby started like that around 3 weeks old. He was breastfed but given 10mls of formula on day 3 having lost 10% of his birth weight. I cut out dairy and eggs from my diet and at 6 months he was diagnosed with dairy and egg allergies. He had eczema, reflux and tongue tie. Arching his back and screaming during feeds. He's 8 and almost outgrown dairy allergy but still working on the egg ladder. If you're cutting out dairy/egg/ soya make sure to get replacement foods and good multivitamin. We couldn't give Neocate as his allergy was diagnosed at 6 months and it is a battle to take at that age (really rank stuff).

thinkfast · 13/11/2021 10:01

My two both had CMPA and had rashes like that. FYI if you're breastfeeding- I was told by paediatrician it takes 2 weeks for dairy to get out of your breast milk after you stop all dairy and soya.

MrsCremuel · 13/11/2021 12:56

Hi all! I have seen some improvement, I’m at two weeks now but very annoyingly had a slip in a cafe on Tuesday with some baked goods with crap labelling.

His nappies were getting better, ‘sweet’ smelling BF poo rather that vinegar. His rash has definitely calmed down but he still seems in discomfort around feeds. The last two nights have been better though and we’ve all got a bit more rest so fingers crossed! I have the HV out on Wednesday so I’ll see what she says.

I was hoping it wasn’t CMPA abs just something he’d grow out of. When should challenge it and try some dairy? Is it 6 weeks?

I think it takes two weeks for the dairy to get out of your system and another week to leave baby's system. So say after a month to 5 weeks you can reintroduce dairy back into your diet and see what happens. A food diary will also help so you're not relying on memory.

mishmased · 13/11/2021 18:09

Also @MrsCremuel did you have baby checked for tongue tie?

MrsCremuel · 13/11/2021 21:07

@mishmased we did and had the division today! Midwife who did it noted his reflux, poor boy is always grunting. Recommended I take him to the GP. Now I’ve started eliminating diary from diet id be scared to muddy the waters with gaviscon etc - how could I tell if it was the dairy free diet or meds if he got better? Tricky.

@MrsCremuel that is fantastic you should see a huge improvement with his feeding soon🤞
I'd give the gaviscon to help with reflux and with tt cut and dairy eliminated there shouldn't be any back arching. Get baby sorted first and then you can try a little bit of dairy in your diet, keep giving gaviscon while introducing dairy and see how it goes. If baby is allergic to dairy in your diet the symptoms will come back.
I would let the gaviscon start working first before reintroducing dairy and if you don't see any improve in the reflux then you should request omeprazole. Bottom line get everything sorted before reintroducing dairy.

lisaandalan · 13/11/2021 23:17

I'd definitely say allergies. X

lisaandalan · 13/11/2021 23:19

Maybe need infant gaviscon for pains in tummy too / reflux. X

MrsCremuel · 14/11/2021 08:40

Thanks all, will get infant gaviscon and report back!
