Stork bite

Hi all. My DS is 1 and he has had a stork bite since birth. He claws the crap out of it daily, despite us slathering a boat load of cream on it to soothe it.
It's goes really crusty and dry which makes him scratch it until he bleeds! Any suggestions on how to get rid of the itch? I'm not bothered about the red mark just how much it bothers him.
We have even tried hydrocortisone cream, which works but as soon as we stop using it, it comes back.
He's scratched the life out of it today and I've just picked him up from nursery and his neck is a right mess!
Any help much appreciated x

I think he coincidentally has eczema in the same spot? I have it there too. In your pic you can kind of see the birthmark around the edges of the scratchy spot so I think there's something else going on, as others have said.

Mine had severe eczema so a bit different, but I was moved up a step on the steroid ladder to eumovate. They also had to wear scratch sleeves during the day when it was particularly bad.

Thank you all for your responses and your input, it's very much appreciated.
It's not head lice, possibly eczema related.
I'll see if I can get in with my own GP. He's very good but not a skin specialist, but he's thorough.
We have seen a dermatologist twice but nothing has ever been said about it despite me asking!
All being well a steroid cream will do the trick for him.
I will push for further investigation on it. I don't want to be fobbed off like I have been for the last 6 months!

I agree with others, if hydrocortisone is helping this is likely something else and hopefully a stronger steroid will help clear it up as the scratch cycle is awful. One of mine had similar but different place so not a stalk bite and GPs were adamant it was ringworm but nothing worked save for strong steroids so I concluded it was a patch of eczema.

I still have mine in my 30s!

That does look sore, agree it looks like eczema in same place

WJM2020 · 14/11/2021 11:26

Hi all. We have been applying hydrocortisone cream since Tuesday (twice a day) and it's gone down immensely! Will keep going until Tuesday and then take it down to every other day to make sure it's all gone.
Spoke to my FIL as he's a pharmacist and that was his advice. If it carries on I'll go to the docs but the fact its all but cleared up may mean eczema so he said.
We now have conjunctivitis! Deep joy 🥴🥴

Good to hear it's clearing up. What could be triggering it if it is eczema? Have you got any pets?

Pink eye too - that's rough, I hope it clears up!

WJM2020 · 14/11/2021 18:37

We have a dog. But his scratching is localised to his neck. It's not all over so god knows.
He's so poorly it's awful. His eyes are all caked with crap and no pharmacy will give me any eye drops without a prescription so now waiting for a doctor from 111 to call back. Been waiting since 1.30pm this afternoon.
He's now got a high temp (37.8, no high but no fever). So he's down for the night and the nurofen is doing it's job as it was 37.4 when I checked after he fell to sleep.
Cough, horrendous cold and pink eye! My poor man can't catch a break!
Nursery is kicking my DS's immunises systems ass! 😭😭😭

Haven't read the thread, but have you tried that chickenpox gel? Is it called Virasoothe or something? I don't know that it would be safe, but I imagine it might be. Stopped our LO scratching at all with chicken pox which I thought was quite impressive..
