111 today or wait for GP?

DS (12 months old) hasn't pooed for 11 days. On day 6 I called the GP and got a prescription for lactulose, which we've been giving ever since, but with no joy. He is trying to go occasionally but with no success. He's getting increasingly grumpy, but is also teething so I don't know how much of it is down to being constipated. He's not been vomiting, has been off his food for a while but is still eating a little. His abdomen doesn't feel hard. The last time he went it was normal consistency, but absolutely massive, so I'm concerned he's withholding and don't want him to do himself lasting damage.

Do I call 111 today or leave it until I can get him to the GP tomorrow?

Oh, and he's on 2.5ml of the lactulose twice a day.

Don't wait any longer. He must be so uncomfortable bless him x

Up the lactulose. My daughter had this problem and it took until she was just over three to fully resolve.

You could also pop into the pharmacy and see if anything they suggest. For example not sure if suitable for age but suppository might be option.

I’d go with a suppository to soften what’s there.
Will he take prunes, take the skin off obviously. They really are the best for constipation.
And try some fresh orange juice, you might have to dilute it with water if he doesn’t like the taste.

My son had this age 3. His bowel ending up being impacted and the poos he was doing were massive and painful. We got a prescription for Laxido (it was previously Movicol) which is a powder you mix with water and they drink. It draws the water straight into the bowel and will eventually make the poos runny and then you lower then dose to a maintenance dose once the blockage is cleared. If the bowel is impacted it has stretched meaning he didnt feel the need go until it was full but by that time it was massive and hard to pass leading to discomfort/not eating etc.

GP tomorrow and Ask for laxido and stick with it.

Thanks everyone, especially @blackcoffeenosleep- that explains what is going on. His last poo was absolutely huge and looked painful just like you describe, so I imagine this is why is going on. I will definitely ask for laxido.
