Poorly Toddler isn’t eating

DS (20 months) hasn’t been himself for the last few days and has been very picky with his meals (usually a very good eater)

Yesterday he started with a cough, runny nose and red watery eyes (haven’t tested for Covid as he tested positive on the 11th October so very unlikely he would have it again so soon)

He’s just not eating, at all.

He’s still breastfeeding and is having milk feeds as well as cows milk and the odd sip of water.

I offered him toast, cereal or fruit for breakfast all of which he refused.

He asked for a yogurt, which I wouldn’t usually give for breakfast (they are flavoured) but I was just pleased he wanted something.
He ate it but then 20 minutes later he was sick.

He hasn’t eaten anything at all since the yogurt at 7.30am which he brought back up.

Should I be concerned about this? :(

Sounds normal when poorly to me. He's drinking which is the main thing

I'd offer nibbles of toast/apple/banana/dried cereal but other than that I'd wait for his appetite to return.

The fluids he's having will sustain him for now. Maybe offer a bit of toast after calpol has kicked in? Hope he's better soon op

Poor wee one! Has he been back to nursery since testing positive? Could he have picked up a sick bug?

@whitehorsesdonotlie

Yes he has, he has only been back a week though.
He just seems to he picking up so much 😔

I think that's just the way it will go this autumn/winter - there were hardly any bugs last year, with lockdowns, so this year there will be more. Hope he's better soon!

As long as he’s peeing and responding well and not floppy. If not he needs a drip in hospital. That means he has enough blood pressure to make wee. So sips of anything.. lollipops, watermelon.. juice.. fizzy drinks.. any fluid that results in pee.. even if it’s not the healthiest, you can do that when he’s well again.. he should make 2 ml per kg per hour so 20kgs, 40 mls an hour.. weigh 3 dry nappies, get the average and then weigh the wet one .. look at patient.info/doctor/dehydration-in-children. Don’t worry too much bout eating.. just drinks and pee unless it goes on more than 3 days. Go to GP OR A and E if you’re worried at any stage.
